Job summary

Flex-N-Gate is a leading manufacturer supplying automotive components and is expanding its maintenance team in Southfield, MI. The Maintenance Technician will support the X-Cel Industries team by performing essential tasks in safety, maintenance, quality and housekeeping to keep equipment in peak condition and ready to meet customer needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • 5+ years experience in a production environment may be substituted at management’s discretion.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Blueprint interpretation.
  • Basic knowledge of ISO/IATF16949:2016 Management System.
  • Participation in an employee ownership and/or empowered team environment.
  • Ability to work additional hours as required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety rules and prevent accidents on site.
  • Ensure all scheduled maintenance is performed on time and documented.
  • Operate and maintain conveyors and related equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis for downtime.
  • Support continual improvement using Kaizen.

SCOPE

Maintenance Technicians are members of the X-Cel Industries team. They perform various maintenance activities to ensure that X-Cel equipment is always in excellent condition and capable of supporting all of our customer's needs. This position involves responsibilities in three (4) key areas: Quality, Safety, Maintenance and Housekeeping. Maintenance Technicians must possess personal commitment and availability beyond regular business hours.

RELATIONSHIPS

The Maintenance Technician is an associate of the maintenance department. This position is part of the maintenance team which includes the Paint Systems Manager, Plant Manager, and fellow associates. As a team member this position is expected to fully cooperate with all X-Cel associates as necessary for the mutual benefit of the company.

Key Responsibilities
Safety
  • Meet all operating safety rules in accordance with X-Cel and local safety regulations.
  • Safely handle and process materials including raw, processed, and hazardous waste.
  • No loose clothing, hair, or jewelry.
  • No smoking (except in designated areas).
  • Safety glasses recommended.
  • Report all accidents no matter how minor (no exceptions).
Maintenance
  • Ensure all scheduled maintenance is performed on time and documented correctly.
  • Communicate any concerns regarding equipment to the Technical Manager.
  • All purchases or spending must be approved in writing prior to purchase (see Purchase Requisition).
  • All facility maintenance must be monitored by this associate. Report any needs to the Tech. Manager.
  • It is your responsibility to complete and store all records that you use. This will be reviewed by Management.
  • PM all machinery and help develop and maintain AM/PM Calendar.
  • Work on and maintain existing conveyor lines and associated equipment.
  • Utilize existing skill trade knowledge as well as develop new knowledge while working with other associates.
  • Maintain operation of all systems (PTED, Paint, Assembly) and all associated equipment.
  • Perform Facility maintenance tasks as required.
  • Perform Root Cause analysis for troubleshooting all given downtime.
  • Perform and utilize Kizan for continual improvement of existing systems.
Quality
  • Obtain a complete understanding of all Quality Management System Procedures that relate to your area.
  • Avoid any downtime on the Production line due to maintenance-related issues.
  • Ensure all scheduled maintenance is performed without exception so that equipment is able to run according to design specifications.
  • Communicate any and all concerns regarding equipment to Maintenance Manager.
  • Conduct inventory audit on critical spare parts as directed by Maintenance Manager.
Housekeeping
  • It is your responsibility to appropriately clean areas where maintenance is performed.
  • You are responsible for the cleanliness of the maintenance area inside the plant.
  • You are responsible for cleaning up after yourself while on breaks (i.e. cans, bottles, wrappers etc.).

Education

  • Previous experience in a production environment.
