Job summary

Protolabs in Minnesota seeks a Maintenance Technician to perform intermediate-level preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on production machinery and facility systems. You will diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic/pneumatic issues, complete repairs, and support equipment installations and upgrades for improved uptime.

Shift – Weekend Shift; must work Sat and Sun. Requires 3+ years in industrial maintenance, knowledge of mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and basic

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical training or associate degree preferred.
  • 3+ years hands-on industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Basic electrical knowledge up to 480V, including motors, starters, relays, and VFDs.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings/electrical schematics and PLC ladder logic.
  • Proficient with common hand/tools, diagnostic equipment (multimeter, clamp meter).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to prioritize under production pressure.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled maintenance on machine tools and equipment.
  • Repair and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic/pneumatic issues.
  • Assist with installations, upgrades, and CAD projects as needed.
  • Maintain and improve CMMS program usage.
  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Keep work areas organized with emphasis on safety and efficiency.
  • Contribute to process improvements and adhere to policies.

Join our team as a Maintenance Technician!

The Maintenance Technician performs intermediate-level preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on production machinery and facility systems. This role diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic/pneumatic issues, completes repairs, supports equipment installations and upgrades, and helps improve machine uptime and reliability. Works independently on routine tasks and under guidance for complex troubleshooting.

Shift – Weekend Shift. Open to exact days and schedule, but must work Sat and Sun.

What You Will Do
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on machine tools including cleaning, lubrication, filter changing, belt replacement, adjustments, and basic repairs
  • Become more proficient with complex repairs as required
  • Complete occasional CAD projects required within the Facilities and maintenance departments
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of CMMS program
  • Adhere to all quality and safety standards within the department
  • Maintain clean and organized work area with emphasis on safety, quality, efficiency, and utilization
  • Continually seek to improve processes
  • Comply with all company quality and safety standards
  • Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
What It Takes
  • High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical school or associate degree in industrial maintenance, electrical technology, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on industrial maintenance experience (or equivalent military experience) in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Basic electrical knowledge up to 480V, experience with motors, starters, relays, and VFDs.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and basic PLC ladder logic.
  • Proficient with common hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment (multimeter, clamp meter).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to prioritize work under production pressure.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Prior experience with Injection molding machines and CNC

$26.83 - $36.83 an hour

Work Environment

Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in a manufacturing area exposed to machinery and noise; with eye protection and safety shoes required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
