Job summary

The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is hiring a Maintenance Technician to perform maintenance, repair, and housekeeping tasks across residences to keep environments safe and clean for residents, including seniors.

This floater position requires OMH/DOH clearance and on-site work five days a week; strong plumbing/electrical skills and teamwork are essential to support independent living for residents.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; 4 years in handyman/maintenance position required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with a senior population.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated work experience as a handy person and building maintenance.
  • Able to perform job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare vacant apartments for occupancy in coordination with building supervisor.
  • Assist with painting and light repairs.
  • Assist in special projects (e.g., stripping and waxing floors).
  • Assist with electrical repairs, including troubleshooting and replacing fixtures as necessary.
  • Complete residential painting projects with precision and attention to detail.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on residential properties; ensure safety standards.
  • Wear company uniform and maintain neat appearance.
  • Work as a team to provide high levels of care and respect for residents.
  • Communicate resident progress and needs per confidentiality policy.
  • Attend training sessions and implement safety procedures.
  • Submit required reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist with other duties as directed.

Position Description

The Maintenance Technician will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and housekeeping tasks to provide a clean and safe environment for residents of West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) with the goal of enabling senior residents to live safely and as independently as possible.

This is a full-time position (5) days a weekon-site.

PLEASE NOTE

This is a FLOATER position that requires OMH/DOH clearance to work in all WSFSSH Residences as needed.

Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
  • In coordination with building super, or as directed, prepare vacant apartments for occupancy
  • Assist with painting and light repairs
  • Assist in special projects (for example: stripping and waxing floors)
  • Assist with electrical repairs, including troubleshooting and replacing fixtures as necessary
  • Complete residential painting projects with precision and attention to detail
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on residential properties, ensuring all work meets safety standards
  • Required to wear the company’s uniform and/or adhere to the dress code policy, and to always maintain a neat and clean appearance
Other
  • Work as a member of a team to establish and maintain a high level of care and respect for and communication with senior residents
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members
  • Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with other staff in accordance with WSFSSH Confidentiality Policy
  • Attend training sessions and conferences as required for enhancement of job skills
  • Implement emergency procedures as necessary
  • Submit all required reports in a complete and timely manner
  • Assist with other duties as directed
Required Skills / Abilities
  • Strong maintenance skills and experience
  • Able to work in a multicultural and diverse environment
  • Proven experience with plumbing and electrical systems
  • Ability to work with hardware tools and power equipment
  • Extremely organized and a good communicator
  • Detail- oriented and an aptitude for problem solving
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, highly preferred
  • Collaborate with team members to lead projects and ensure timely completion of tasks
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required in Lieu of GED, 4 years in a relevant handyman and/or maintenance position required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with a senior population and dependent individuals
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated work experience as a handy person and building maintenance
  • Able to perform job responsibilities
Physical Requirements
  • This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to lift at least 25+ lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
