Job summary

Norshield in Montgomery, Alabama is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Technician to keep facility equipment running smoothly. You will troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, perform preventive maintenance, and support continuous improvement to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.

You will handle CNC maintenance, PLC control systems, welding, hydraulics and pneumatics, and ensure safe, compliant operations. Strong problem-solving and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of maintenance technician experience.
  • Strong ability to read technical manuals to understand equipment and controls.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with PLCs and robotic systems.
  • Experience with 480V 3-phase electrical systems and welding (MIG/TIG/Arc).
  • Certified electrical/electronic work with metal fabrication experience.
  • Understanding hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and implement solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues under guidance of the Operations Manager.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain safe, efficient, and productive work environment.
  • Responsible for maintenance, repairs, or modifications on all machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair complex machines including electrical/PLC, welding, machining, hydraulics/pneumatics, and conveyors.
  • Ensure machinery is maintained in good operating condition.
  • Perform maintenance on CNC machines (mills, lathes, routers, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot PLC-based equipment and control systems.
  • Conduct maintenance inspections during plant closures.
  • Manage inventory of supplies for the department.
  • Ensure waste oils and greases are stored and maintained.
  • Fabricate replacement parts using lathes, mills, grinders, etc.
  • Set up and maintain jigs and welding programs as needed.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain records of repairs and lockouts.
  • Review and recommend machinery improvements.
  • Clean and lubricate equipment; adjust alignment and sensors.

Our Norshield team is growing and to support that growth, we are adding a Maintenance Technician to the team located in Montgomery, Alabama.

What would you do as our Maintenance Technician?

You will be a hands-on technician responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment across the facility. Under the guidance of the Operations Manager, you would troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, perform preventive maintenance, and support continuous improvement efforts to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability—all while promoting a safe, efficient, and productive work environment.

You would also:

  • Responsible for any required maintenance, repairs, or modifications on all machinery and equipment.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge as required in diagnosing and repairing our more complex machines. This may include electrical/PLC, mechanical, welding, machining, hydraulics/pneumatics, and conveyor systems.
  • Ensure all machinery/equipment is maintained in good operating condition.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on CNC machines (mills, lathes, routers, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair PLC-based equipment and control systems.
  • Perform maintenance inspections on all machinery during plant closures.
  • Responsible for inventory of supplies and requesting supplies required for the operation of the department.
  • Ensure all waste oils, greases, etc. are collected, stored, and maintained.
  • Make replacement parts requiring the operation of lathes, milling machine, surface grinder, drill press, bench grinder, band saw.
  • Set up and maintain jigs and welding programs as needed.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action plans (CAPs).
  • Ensure that all records of machine repairs and lockouts are maintained and filed.
  • Review and recommend changes to machinery and equipment.
  • Clean and lubricate equipment or machinery.
  • Adjust equipment and align machinery parts.
  • Adjust equipment and rest or calibrate sensors and controls.
  • Ensure that all repairs are done in compliance with legislation.
  • Other responsibilities as required

The Skills and Experience you need:

  • 7+ years as a Maintenance Technician
  • Strong ability to read technical manuals to understand equipment and controls.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and robotic systems
  • Experience with PCL programming.
  • Experience working with industrial electrical systems, particularly 480V 3-phase systems.
    Welding experience, including MIG, TIG, and Arc welding, for repair and fabrication purposes.
  • Qualified and/or certified electrical/electronic with metal fabrication experience.
  • Must understand hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions
  • Ability to pinpoint difficult problems and initiate creative solutions.
  • Understanding or operating principles of machines (brake press, punch press, roll former, shear)
  • Ability to adapt to new technology and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team.
  • Report any deficiencies in systems, facilities, machinery, equipment and/or tools immediately to your supervisor.
  • Record and/or report product damage/nonconformities to your supervisor as required.
  • Comply with Quality Assurance policies and procedures.
  • Participate and contribute to effective production efficiency
  • Comply with relevant policies, laws, and regulations.
