Job summary

About the role

  • The Maintenance Technician reports to the Community Director and works under the day-to-day leadership of the Lead Maintenance Technician or Maintenance Supervisor, as applicable. In alignment with J Street Property Services, Inc.’s standards, values, and commitment to resident service, this individual is responsible for working alongside the service and office teams to provide a positive customer experience.

What you'll do

  • The Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of property facilities, apartment homes, and community areas, while providing prompt and courteous responses to resident service requests. Tasks may include diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems; electrical appliances, outlets, and light fixtures; plumbing, carpentry, locks, and other general maintenance needs.
  • This position also supports the community by ensuring there is an adequate supply of market-ready apartments to meet leasing demand, while maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning property appearance. The Maintenance Technician must be organized, dependable, service-focused, and committed to creating a positive experience for residents, team members, vendors, and other business partners.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three to five years of experience in facility maintenance, apartment maintenance, mechanical repair, or a related field preferred.
  • EPA Type II, Type III, or Universal certification required, as applicable.
  • Pool Certification/CPO certification preferred, where required by local ordinance.
  • Commercial maintenance experience with plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, and janitorial support strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of heating and air conditioning unit repair and maintenance.
  • General knowledge of repair and maintenance of household appliances, lighting fixtures, plumbing systems, and general apartment maintenance.
  • Knowledge and ability to safely operate common and specialized tools used for repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to visually inspect apartment homes, grounds, curb appeal, common areas, and other aspects of the community to determine adherence to company standards.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply written instructions for repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with residents, team members, vendors, and leadership.
  • Basic technology skills, including use of maintenance software, email, internet research, and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, including project coordination, monitoring, and execution.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to provide own basic tools.
  • Valid driver’s license from the state of residence required.

The pay range for this role is: 23 - 25 USD per hour (The Westerly)
