Job summary

Roskam Foods in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking an intermediate Maintenance Technician to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, and support equipment changeovers on production lines.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of industrial maintenance experience, with CMMS literacy, strong reading of schematics, and the ability to lift 50 lbs in hot or cold environments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in food manufacturing.
  • Proficient in reading schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Strong mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and operate in hot/cold environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate-level preventive maintenance and repairs on production equipment, including conveyors, ovens, freezers, pumps, motors, and packaging systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems with minimal supervision.
  • Support and lead equipment changeovers, ensuring minimal downtime and compliance with sanitation protocols.
  • Calibrate and adjust sensors, scales, and automated systems to maintain product quality.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records in the CMMS and report recurring issues or potential failures.
  • Assist in training and mentoring Maintenance Technician I team members.
  • Assist with parts room to maintaining key equipment spare parts inventory.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, HACCP, SQF, and all safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and PPE usage.
  • Collaborate with production and sanitation teams to ensure equipment readiness and reliability.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas and tools.
  • Other duties as identified or assigned by Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

Advanced troubleshooting of conveyors, ovens, freezers, baggers, wrappers, pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, and ammonia systems. Calibration and diagnostics of packaging and palletizing equipment. Support for utilities systems, including compressed air and refrigeration.

Development Path:

This role is part of the Maintenance Journeyman Program and prepares candidates for advancement to Maintenance Technician III or Specialist roles through: Advanced coursework (e.g., PLCs, automation, refrigeration). Leadership training and project assignments. Demonstrated technical mastery and reliability.
