Job summary

Kaiser Aluminum Kalamazoo is seeking Maintenance Mechanics to join our team on a full-time basis. The role offers alternating 3 and 4-day weeks, night shifts 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, and a path to growth in a safety-focused, high-automation plant.

You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production equipment, read ladder logic, participate in PM and lean initiatives, and enjoy a competitive compensation package with sign-on bonus and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Journeyman status preferred.
• Associate degree or certification in electrical or mechanical technology preferred.
• 2 years manufacturing Maintenance Technician or control programming experience required.
• Multi-trade with industrial electrical experience.
• Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work all shifts.

Responsibilities

• Monitor equipment reliability and performance.
• Repair, install, adjust, modify, and service all production equipment.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Read ladder logic to troubleshoot.
• Participate in preventive and predictive maintenance, 5S, and EI Teams.
• Complete work orders safely and effectively.
• Support safety and 5S initiatives; communicate with production personnel.
• Identify opportunities to improve PMs and spare parts controls.
• Join Equipment Improvement Teams to reduce downtime.
• Collaborate with other areas to meet plant objectives.
• Apply lean manufacturing tools in maintenance activities.
• Perform autonomous care and housekeeping.
• Document spare parts usage.
• Stay within scheduling requirements.

What you will be working on in the role

• Monitors all equipment to ensure reliability.
• Repairs, installs, adjusts, modifies, and services all types of production equipment, plant instrumentation and relays.
• Troubleshoots hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Reads ladder logic to troubleshoot.
• Participates in the preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, 5S, and E.I. Teams
• Completes work orders in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Participates on safety and 5S teams.
• Maintains open communication with production technicians.
• Provides support to other maintenance technicians.
• Identifies and reports opportunities for improvement of PM’s and spare parts controls.
• Participates on Equipment Improvement Teams
• Works within an environment focused on the reduction of unplanned downtime.
• Works collaboratively with other functional areas to ensure accomplishment of overall plant objectives.
• Applies lean manufacturing tools & principles in maintenance activities.
• Performs autonomous care and housekeeping.
• Documents spare parts usage
• Works within scheduling requirements

What you will bring to the role

• High School diploma or equivalent (required)
• Journeyman status in skilled trades discipline (preferred but not required)
• Associate’s degree, or Certification in Electrical or Mechanical technology (preferred but not required)
• 2 years manufacturing Maintenance Technician or control programming experience (required)
• Multi-trade with industrial electrical experience
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment and on problem solving activities.
