Qualifications

Description
Maintenance Technician
Location: Fort Benton, MT
Work Schedule: This facility operates 7 days a week and offers weekday, weekend and night shifts.
Pay: Competitive hourly pay based on experience, qualifications and skill level, plus shift differentials for night and weekend shifts.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving production equipment, facility systems, and supporting infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operations within the Fiber processing facility. This position requires strong hands-on mechanical skills and the ability to diagnose equipment problems, perform repairs, fabricate components, and support preventive maintenance in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Primary Functions And Essential Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Reliability
  • Perform routine, preventive, and predictive maintenance on production equipment, mechanical systems, and mobile machinery.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Perform welding and metal fabrication for equipment repairs and modifications.
  • Assist with and perform maintenance and minor repairs to facility structures, equipment and systems, including electrical components.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Electrical & Controls Systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including motors, 110V, 220V, 3-phase 480V and 24V low voltage power systems, sensors, switches, controls, and related components.
  • Troubleshoot PLC and HMI-controlled equipment and assist with programming modifications, controls diagnostics, and repairs as needed.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
General
  • Track, maintain, and schedule daily, emergency and preventative maintenance details and repairs.
  • Maintain working knowledge of machinery, processes, and quality standards.
  • Follow safety procedures and policies and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Report maintenance and operational concerns promptly.
  • Track and maintain spare parts and consumables inventories.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on knowledge of manufacturing equipment.
  • Welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • A positive, adaptable self-starter who takes direction well, learns quickly and works effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively collaborate with production, engineering, and management teams.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to document maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and complete repairs in a timely manner.
Required Physical Abilities
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs or ladders on a regular basis.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 50-plus pounds.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including pushing, pulling, shoveling, bending, kneeling and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights of 15 - 35 feet.
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment with high noise, airborne dust, and varying hot and cold temperatures or inclement weather.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment, including respirators, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and protective footwear.
  • Ability to safely operate job-related tools and equipment.
Education And Experience
  • High school diploma required
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience
