Job summary

The City of Dearborn Career Opportunities is seeking a full-time fleet technician to maintain and repair a division's vehicles, including calibration and lead-work when needed.

Responsibilities include servicing various equipment, ordering parts, training staff, and ensuring consistent attendance. A high school diploma or trade schooling with related experience is required along with a Michigan Class A CDL with N endorsement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) or mechanical trade school with 1 year of related experience, or required certifications.
• Valid Michigan CDL Class A with N endorsement and related endorsements as required by law.

Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $27.64 Hourly

CLASS SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of vehicles for an assigned division. Responsibilities may include calibrating related systems; repairing various equipment and vehicles; and maintaining inventory. May act as lead worker to employees in lower classifications.

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Installs, calibrates, programs, operates, and/or repairs controls associated with salting streets and related systems.
2. Repairs various equipment and vehicles, including: repairing sweepers; repairing pumps and valves; repairing plows; repairing bulldozers; repairing graders; and repairing related equipment and vehicles.
3. Orders parts and supplies and maintains proper inventory levels.
4. Trains staff in operating trucks and equipment.
5. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

QualificationsTRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) or Mechanical trade school and 1 year of related experience; or, all required certification(s); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver License Class A with N endorsement and all endorsements required by state law

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, gases, chemicals, work space restricts movement, intense noise, and environmental threats.
