POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Program Associate-Legal Service.

In this role, the successful candidate Job Summary:

The Program Coordinator is funded by a one (1) year grant from the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture and will be part of the Program for Survivors of Torture Division (PSOT). The purpose of the grant is to address the unmet needs of our asylum-seeking clients who are impacted by the FIFO/LIFO policies. Known as First-In, First Out or FIFO, is a policy by which the most recent applicants are adjudicated before those who have been waiting for years Last-In, First-Out or LIFO. This new process has become a human rights crisis for our clients at both ends of the temporal spectrum. The Program Coordinator will address the complex and ongoing legal needs for those clients who are dealing with increased uncertainty of the asylum policy changes. They will work closely with the Legal Services Manager to assist PSOTs clients with legal needs. We further intend that this position will help us to build on partnerships with other community stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Schedule and conduct Legal Assessments, given to every new client upon acceptance to triage legal status and needs;
  • Attend weekly supervision with Legal Services Manager and his supervising attorney;
  • Attend weekly Case Conference and Intake Conference;
  • Meet with and prepare clients for immigration office, green card and naturalization interviews;
  • File immigration/asylum forms and applications as a Certified Preparer;
  • Maintain relationships with agencies, shelters, law firms, other organizations to both refer current clients and recruit potential clients, and provide holistic services;
  • Scan all supporting legal documents and input data into PSOTs database for reporting to funders as well as direct service;
  • Manage calendars and appointments for Legal Team;
  • Monitor the legal services voicemail, take messages, and respond to client inquiries for Legal Team.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have organizational skills, excellent verbal and written skills, knowledge of the asylum and immigration related legal process, experience in working with trauma survivors, French language preferred.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
