Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician at Harmon Scrap Metal is a skilled, hands-on professional responsible for the preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance of a wide range of equipment critical to daily operations. This includes semi-trucks, cranes, shredders, conveyors, and other heavy industrial machinery used in the processing and transportation of scrap metal. They play a key role in minimizing downtime, ensuring equipment reliability, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Performance Objectives
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune ups, per manufacturer guidelines
  • Mount, dismount, and repair semi tires
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brakes, lights, belts, water pumps, tires, and other mechanical parts
  • Oils and lubricates moving parts on equipment to ensure effective performance
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies
  • Maintain documentation of repairs in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Attend and participate in internal meetings and complete required training
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of automotive and maintenance experience
  • Driver's license & clean driving record
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Frequently climb up and down ladders; crouch and bend at the knee; stoop or bend at the waist; reach arms overhead; and twist and turn at the neck and trunk
  • Continually handle and grasp levers and dials; continuous leg and foot motion when using pedals
  • Good hearing to detect equipment noises or alarms
  • Good vision (color vision) for reading gauges, schematics, and identifying materials or warning signs
  • Ability to work long shifts in physically demanding conditions, often outdoors in all weather (heat, cold, rain)
