Xavier University’s Office of Physical Plant is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support a safe, functional campus environment. The ideal candidate performs hands-on trades and preventive maintenance across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.

Overview

Maintenance Technician – Xavier University’s Office of Physical Plant. This position supports a safe, functional, and comfortable campus environment. The ideal candidate is a well‑rounded technician with hands‑on experience in multiple trades and a proactive mindset toward preventive maintenance and timely repairs.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment.
• Complete and manage work orders through the campus CMMS system.
• Prioritize tasks to ensure safety and minimize downtime.
• Work both independently and as part of a team to support university operations.
• Follow all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.
• Be available on a rotational on‑call schedule.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience in a facilities or maintenance‑related role.
• Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and proficiency with standard tools.
• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.), and work from ladders or in confined spaces.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with various departments and stakeholders.
• HVAC certification or licensed electrician preferred.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Exposure to noise, vibrations, chemicals, and confined spaces is common.
• Physically demanding tasks including bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and climbing.
