Overview
San Diego’s St. Paul’s PACE program (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly). This innovative program is for individuals 55 years or older, who are living with chronic illness or disabilities and need coordinated medical care to continue living as independently as possible in their home and community. The healthcare teams at St. Paul’s PACE provide a hands-on approach coordinating medical, social, and home care services so individuals no longer need to manage their medical care alone.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance service, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair in one or more skill areas, including disassembling machines, adjusting mechanical parts, repairing or replacing broken parts, motors, pumps, belts, fans, minor plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting and plastering, machine servicing, electrical repairs or installations according to established procedures, manufacturer’s instructions, and applicable regulations.
- Perform tasks such as changing light bulbs, installing paper dispenser units, changing filters, changing locks on doors, minor decorative maintenance, nurse’s call system, intercom systems, CCTV, railing, windows, furniture, wheelchairs and other tasks not requiring a licensed skilled trades person or journeyman.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management system TLS to generate, complete and close Work Orders and PMs. Pull, prioritize, and schedule assigned Work Orders and PMs. Communicate repairs and scheduled PMs with Administrator.
- Keep maintenance log up to date by completing routine maintenance checks including running the emergency generator, fire alarm system, water temperatures, checks, lubricating and cleaning facility equipment as per PM work orders; monitor call lights and replace filters on ventilation systems as assigned.
- Maintain maintenance shop, storage areas, tools, equipment, and radios in good working condition. Maintain inventory in proper bins/locations and inventory equipment and supplies as needed.
- Maintain a clean and neat appearance. Be considerate and respectful of residents and staff while performing maintenance tasks in a professional, safe manner.
- Wear clean uniforms provided by St. Paul’s and proper non-slip work shoes/boots as required.
- Review SDSs regularly for understanding and proper use if required.
- Identify and correct unsafe working conditions with management oversight.
- Attend training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
- Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
- Apply all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- May be required to assist with special events.
- May drive a cart or other vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
- Assist skilled trade workers in one or more areas performing specific or standard duties to learn.
- Learn new skills as required for advancement and certification.
- May be required to utilize basic cleaning and other chemicals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to perform a variety of maintenance tasks, including all of the above fields.
- Must be able to work independently and take instructions as needed.
- Must be able to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical faults in facility’s systems for which qualified.
- Must have basic phone and computer skills (email, texting, etc.).
- Must enjoy and be able to work in a senior citizen environment.
- Must be able to read blueprints and schematics.
Education and/or Experience
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Trade school courses preferred.
- 1 year minimum experience in general maintenance including painting, tiling, drywall, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances; apprentice level expertise in at least 3 of the above trades.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift/move 50 lbs. – 80 lbs. using proper lifting techniques. Able to regularly lift and carry objects weighing 50 lbs. Able to maneuver tools, equipment, cart through halls, up and down ramps, in and out of elevators safely. Able to bend, squat, and stoop to floor level. Must be able to climb stairs, work in tight and/or elevated locations up to 36 feet or more (lifts, rooftops, ladders).
