Job summary

HorseShoe Beverage Company is seeking a Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair production equipment and facility systems in the Chattanooga plant. The role supports the Engineering department, conducts preventive maintenance, and troubleshoots mechanical and electrical issues to maximize uptime.

Responsibilities include upgrading equipment, assisting with changeovers, testing repaired gear, and ensuring safety standards are followed.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in a similar position.
  • Must be able to work with power-driven equipment and/or hand tools.
  • Plant electrical maintenance and troubleshooting experience helpful.

Description

Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Location: Maintenance and Engineering Department

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Scheduled Hours: 2nd Shift - Schedule may vary depending on maintenance challenges.

Job Description

I. Essential Functions:

  • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot and upgrade of equipment and facility.
  • Analyze equipment and operational problems for all equipment.
  • Take corrective action to resolve mechanical / electrical and operational problems
  • Responsible for making necessary correction and running adjustment for maximum production
  • Assist with change-over of equipment, as necessary to produce different products
  • Test equipment to ensure proper operation prior to starting
  • Lubricate equipment and perform preventative maintenance checks as needed, and / or as requested
  • Assist with checking product and finished packages for visual effects (i.e.: check wrappers, cartons and boxes to ensure machinery is sealing properly)
  • Assist with clearing equipment jams (during production) and set aside product for inspection / rework
  • Inspect all equipment / report findings to manager. Take appropriate action when problems are encountered
  • Must have computer skills and knowledge to be able to work within a Computerized Maintenance Management System utilizing PM Work Orders, Task Work Orders and a bar code parts inventory system
  • Identify safety issues / hazards, perform corrective action, notify manager
  • Assist with installation of new equipment
  • Test equipment after repair to assure no down-time when production comes on-line

II. Other Functions:

  • Assist manager / supervisor with training new maintenance employees, when requested
  • Operate forklift, scissor-jack, and other equipment as needed
  • Assist with parts inventory; notify manager / clerk regarding needed parts / equipment / supplies, etc.
  • Operate electrical tools and hand tools as necessary
  • Perform light welding and fabrication as needed.
  • Must be able to perform light electrical work including basic electrical trouble shooting with a volt/ohm meter and amp probe
  • Notify manager regarding recurring equipment malfunctions and of corrective action taken
  • Keep work areas clean to avoid hazards
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor / manager

III. Job Specifications:

A. Experience

  • At least three years of experience in a similar position
  • Must be able to work with power-driven equipment and / or hand tools
  • Plant electrical maintenance and troubleshooting experience helpful

B. Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Three years or more of experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Willing to continue education through utilizing internal and external resources

C. Responsibility

  • Responsible for performing all maintenance functions in the safest, most efficient and cost effective manner possible
  • Must be flexible to work different shifts when required.
  • Must be available to work extended hours and extended weeks and be available for short-notice and emergency call in.

D. Complexity of Duties

  • Must consistently exhibit sharp judgment and initiative
  • Must be versatile in performing day-to-day functions
  • Must be able to recognize when technical skills are needed

E. Supervision Received

  • Works primarily without supervision, but must work as a member of maintenance team
  • Must be able to recognize need for supervision and request assistance when needed.

F. Supervision Exercised

  • Must be willing / able to assist in training other maintenance department employees

G. Consequences of Error

  • There is daily opportunity for error and down time if employee does not work safely and effectively
  • Employee is expected to know how his / her work group operates and should be able to work toward solutions
  • Error consequences could be minimal or catastrophic, depending on the situation

H. Working Conditions

  • Able to work inside and outside in all weather elements
  • Must be willing to work in all types of temperature variances (extreme hot or cold)
  • Work involves performing tasks in wet, dusty, close, or cramped areas, etc.

I. Mental, Physical, and Visual Demands

  • Position requires a high mental and visual effort
  • Must be able to perform heavy maintenance work
  • Some climbing, lifting, bending, standing, and exposure to weather is necessary
  • Must exercise dexterity and safety when using hand tools

  • Integrity and discretion are important due to knowledge required to operate machinery and equipment used to make products
