Job summary

Columbus McKinnon is seeking an experienced Millwright/Industrial Maintenance Technician in Chattanooga, TN. You will perform maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC systems and assist with repairs, installations, and safety improvements.

Responsibilities include welding, brazing, torch-cutting, reading blueprints, and using shop tools. Requires forklift or safety training; strong teamwork and deadline adherence are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Technical certificate or schooling in industrial maintenance preferred.
  • 3–4 years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing.
  • Welding, brazing and torch-cutting experience is preferred or trainable.
  • Ability to read machine-detail blueprints and follow schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks assigned by supervisor on various projects.
  • Repairs existing equipment and installs new equipment or parts.
  • Performs welding, brazing, and torch-cutting as needed.
  • Repairs furnace and induction coil components, machine fixtures, and related parts.
  • Operates power hand tools and tool room equipment (lathe, mill, drill, saw, grinders).
  • Performs basic pipe fitting for conduit.
  • Maintains housekeeping, tools, spare parts, and system entries; meets deadlines.

Job Summary/Overview

Performs maintenance work with the degree of skill of a Millwright; skilled in mechanical, air, pneumatic, PLC programming, and hydraulic systems. Electrical systems knowledge is a plus. Performs tasks as assigned by schedule looking for better solutions to fixes and safer ways to complete jobs. Requires minimal supervision.



Responsibilities


  • Performs tasks assigned by supervisor based on different projects.

  • Responsible for the repair of any existing equipment, installation of new equipment or new parts on existing equipment.

  • Perform general welding including brazing and cutting of shapes with cutting torch.

  • Perform various repairs like assisting in furnace and induction coil repairs, machine fixtures and components repairs.

  • Operate all power hand tools and operate all types of tool room equipment (lathe, mill, drill, saw, grinders, etc.)

  • Have basic skills in pipe fitting for Conduit.

  • Perform other related duties such as: general housekeeping, maintenance of all tools, spare parts, supplies, System entries, and other duties as assigned.

  • Works in a safe manner

  • Able to Meet Deadlines



Requirements and Preferred Skills/Experience


  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 3-4 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Welding, brazing, and torch-cutting experience; training may be available.

  • Experience maintaining and repairing industrial equipment, such as mechanical presses, hydraulic systems, forging hammers, and cranes.

  • Ability to perform preventive and predictive maintenance, including lubrication and equipment inspections.

  • Ability to read machine-detail blueprints and follow written, verbal, diagram, and schedule-based instructions.

  • Ability to use close-tolerance measuring tools and standard shop math.

  • Ability to read safety policies and procedures and complete routine reports.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to train or provide instructions to employees.

  • Ability to safely lift, lower, push, and pull up to 40 pounds.

  • Technical certificate or schooling in industrial maintenance.

  • Previous leadership experience is beneficial but not required.

  • Experience evaluating or overseeing the work of other employees.



Shift Hours and Overtime


  • Second shift: Monday-Thursday, 4:00 p.m.-2:30 a.m . *receive $1 shift premium / Friday overtime: Starts at 2:00 p.m. and may last up to 8 hours. Overtime may be optional or mandatory depending on business needs.
