Position Description
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing failures, making repairs and maintaining all systems and parts associated with class 6, 7, & 8 diesel powered tractors and trucks along with other equipment such as forklifts, wheel loaders, balers and compactors. This position is also responsible for maintaining the maintenance shop in compliance with all Operational, Safety, and Compliance Standards. Standards include but are not limited to: DOT, EHS, OSHA, and ANSI Operator Safety Training Requirements for Industrial Equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Maintain the truck and rolling stock PM tracking spreadsheets.
- Maintain all tools and equipment inside the maintenance shop to standards of cleanliness and organization set by the Maintenance Manager.
- Maintain general cleanliness and organization around the maintenance shop at all times.
- Responsible for picking up parts from third party suppliers when necessary
- Responsible for transporting parts or equipment to third party technicians when necessary.
- Diagnose failures and make repairs on mechanical, electrical, or other various systems on vehicles and other rolling stock (wheel loaders, skid steers, forklifts).
- Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Change tires on trucks, tractors, or other rolling stock as necessary.
- Test drive vehicles and equipment to ensure correct functioning.
- Work with drivers and equipment operators to assess malfunctions and instruct them in proper use of vehicle components to prevent future wear or damage.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems on mobile equipment.
- Use hydraulic jacks or hoists.
- Perform minor welding projects.
- Use electronic diagnostic tools and computer software to assist in the troubleshooting and repair of heavy-duty trucks engine, braking, electrical, cooling and exhaust systems.
- Assist in ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Communicate with equipment manufacturers over the phone to troubleshoot problems with computer and electrical systems.
- Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts

Required Skills & Abilities
- Valid Driver’s License
- Basic mechanical knowledge of the various vehicles and other rolling stock and their functionality.
- Ability to work with basic Microsoft programs for reporting and calculating some of the job responsibilities: Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook.
- Excellent organizational skills.

Education & Experience
- 3+ years maintenance experience
- Maintenance lead person experience
- Training in diagnostic software and computerized tools for troubleshooting
- Experience rebuilding, repairing & fabricating aluminum & steel components
- Bilingual, English/Spanish, preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities
Travel Requirements
- Some travel is required such as retrieving parts/supplies from vendors, travel to rolling stock disabled on a commercial route, travel to another Company site to assist with maintenance projects .
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regularly use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, speak and hear.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
- Environmental conditions are not controlled, exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust.
