Job summary

Buckner International in Burnet, TX is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform a broad range of tasks across camp facilities, grounds, pools, and equipment. The role requires hands-on skills in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and equipment maintenance to ensure guest safety and satisfaction.

You will follow schedules, prioritize repairs, operate power tools, manage work orders, and maintain accurate timekeeping while upholding Buckner’s safety policies and service standards.

Qualifications

  • Requires ability to understand and follow basic written and oral instructions.
  • Minimum 2 years janitorial and maintenance experience preferred.
  • Requires ability to acquire and maintain a groundwater license within 12 months of hire.
  • Requires ability to acquire and maintain a Certified Pool Operators certificate within 6 months of hire.
  • Requires valid driver's license and the ability to rent vehicles domestically and internationally.

Job Schedule: Full-Time

We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to make an impact on our guests' experience by providing quality services. As a Maintenance Technician, you will play an important role in performing a variety of jobs around camp grounds including electrical, plumbing, vehicle repair, carpentry, pool maintenance, mowing, landscaping, water plant operations, operating heavy equipment, HVAC repair and other related duties. What you'll do:
  • Maintain all aspects of Camp property and equipment according to Camp best practices.
  • Use critical thinking to detect maintenance needs, prioritize those needs, and make most efficient use of maintenance time, tools, and material.
  • Manage the utilization of current maintenance, work order, and timekeeping software.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and repair gas or electric powered lawn care equipment such as lawn mowers, weed-eaters, chain saws, edging equipment and blowers.
  • Know or learn to install, operate, and repair pumping equipment used in water activities.
  • Be able to properly use ladders, climbing safety equipment, work on rooftops or other high elements.
  • Have the ability to safely operate power tools such as drills, saws, jack hammer, and any other tools needed. Have the ability to use hand tools.
  • Perform routine pool maintenance, repair, cleaning, vacuum, and control chemical water balance. Know or learn to diagnose, repair, and install electrical components such as switches, GFls, outlets, lights, breakers, and motors.
  • Receive and follow maintenance schedule/instructions from supervisor in accordance with established maintenance policies and procedures; perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair on the facility, grounds, and equipment in a safe and serviceable manner including plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, painting, mechanical, etc. as directed.
  • Maintain good timekeeping using current Camp policy. Stay current with Buckner policy by taking advantage of training opportunities offered or required on a regular basis.
  • Replace and repair broken light fixtures, light bulbs, and ceiling fans.
  • Service heating and cooling units/systems as specified by the manufacturer and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Service and repair kitchen equipment including but not limited to, Ice machines, refrigeration, cooking and baking equipment, food prep supplies, fryers, etc.
  • Ability to maintain and operate heavy equipment. For example: tractor, mower, bobcat, backhoe, etc.
  • Monitor and maintain all camp vehicles including repair, service schedule, and cleanliness.
  • Assist in moving equipment and furniture as directed.
  • Ensure that work areas are cleaned and organized. Make sure that equipment, tools, and supplies are properly stored before leaving the work area. Keep work areas free of hazardous conditions (i.e. grease, oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc.) and ensure that all safety rules/regulations are followed at all times.
  • Report all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor, to the supervisor or other appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Wear protective clothing/devices as directed.
  • Immediately turn in all found items to your supervisor.
  • Perform general office tasks as required
What you'll bring:
  • Requires the ability to understand and follow basic written and oral step-by-step instructions.
  • High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years prior related janitorial and maintenance experience preferred.
  • Requires ability to acquire and maintain a Class D or higher groundwater license for maintaining and operating the public water system within 12 months of hire. Current valid groundwater license is preferred.
  • Requires ability to acquire and maintain a Certified Pool Operators certificate within 6 months of hire. Current valid certificate is preferred.
  • Requires proficient ability to speak, read and write English.
  • Requires ability to speak clearly and make self clearly understood in face to face interactions; ability to articulate with accuracy to speak on the phone.
  • Requires excellent organization and communication skills, both oral and in writing.
  • Requires personality attuned to meeting the needs of guests and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with trustees, employees, donors and the public.
  • Requires ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multi-tiered relationships and settings to include but not limited to institutional staff/faculty, various organizations, churches of all sizes, and cultural identities
  • Requires ability to drive assigned vehicle(s) or personal vehicle, with an appropriate state license, following all laws applicable; must provide proof of liability insurance and must be eligible to be insured under Buckner’s insurance policy. Requires the ability to rent vehicles both domestically and internationally using required documentation. Must be age 21 or older to drive on behalf of Buckner.
