Job summary

chg is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for our food processing facility in Bryan, Texas. This role covers preventive maintenance on conveyors, mixers, packaging lines, and refrigeration equipment, with emphasis on minimizing downtime and sustaining production efficiency.

You will diagnose faults, perform electrical and mechanical repairs, and coordinate with supervisors to schedule tasks. The position requires adherence to GMP, HACCP, and safety protocols, plus flexibility to work

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school preferred.
  • 5 years of related experience in industrial manufacturing, preferably automated food processing.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; able to work with PLC/relay logic.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI, SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on production machinery including conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and refrigeration systems.
  • Inspect, lubricate, adjust, and troubleshoot equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Respond to emergencies with unscheduled repairs to keep production running.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the production area in line with sanitation standards.
  • Monitor and repair HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems supporting a safe environment.
  • Adhere to lockout/tagout, PPE, and other safety protocols; participate in safety training.
  • Document maintenance work orders, inspections, parts used, and equipment history.
  • Coordinate with production supervisors and operators to prioritize tasks.
  • Provide training to staff on equipment operation and safety procedures.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed.

Job description

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on production machinery, including conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and refrigeration systems.
  • Conduct inspections, lubrication, and adjustments to ensure equipment operates efficiently and meets production requirements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Respond promptly and provide emergency unscheduled troubleshooting and repairs of production equipment during the manufacturing process to prevent disruptions to production.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the production area, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards and food safety regulations.
  • Monitor and repair facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, to support a safe and comfortable working environment.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and safe work practices.
  • Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment inspections, and inventory management.
  • Document equipment repairs, parts replacements, and maintenance procedures to track equipment history and performance.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate with production supervisors and operators to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize disruptions to production schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality assurance, and safety personnel, to address maintenance issues and implement solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to production staff on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Education/Certifications and Experience: High school diploma or GED, required. Technical school education, preferred. 5 years' related experience in industrial manufacturing environment, preferably in an automated food processing plant. 5 years' experience troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have a strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting/repairs on PLC, relay logic and logic controllers, 480v, 220v, 110v AC single/three phase and DC systems. Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, and SCADA systems. Strong understanding of electrical systems, including motors, drives, and industrial sensors. Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to electrical and control systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and learn new technologies as needed. Ability to perform mechanical repairs that include hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Ability to operate a computer to support and record documentation in our computer maintenance management system.

  • Working Conditions and Physical Effort: Work involves daily and frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, darkness and/or poor lighting, noise, and vibration. Seasonal exposure to weather elements to include, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity. Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks and hazards, such as working around mechanical equipment, mechanical hazards, forklifts, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire and explosives hazards, communicable diseases. Position requires the ability to stand; walking around office, warehouse, and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting on a daily basis. Also requires the ability to see; hear; and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette.
