Job summary

Dexter, based in Elkhart, Indiana, is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to support large production machinery. This hands-on, fast-paced role focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.

Under the Maintenance Engineering Manager, you’ll help improve equipment uptime, safety, and production quality while documenting maintenance activities and supporting standard operating procedures to drive continuous improvement across

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Understanding of OSHA and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Vocational or technical training in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance.
  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Experience with PLCs, programmable controllers, robotics, or teach pendants.
  • Welding experience.
  • Experience with test meters and diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs on production equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic issues.
  • Replace or repair components such as motors, relays, switches, sensors, wiring, and circuit boards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronically controlled and automated systems.
  • Test machinery and systems to confirm proper operation after repairs.
  • Read and use schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Clean, disassemble, repair, and reinstall machine components as needed.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and take corrective action.
  • Perform test runs and make adjustments or modifications as required.
  • Inspect equipment regularly and report worn, damaged, or failing parts.
  • Keep equipment and work areas clean, safe, and organized.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and repair reports.
  • Participate in maintenance meetings and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Help develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals, and guides.
  • Provide technical support or training to team members as directed.
  • Work flexible hours based on production and maintenance needs.

Dexter is looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to support large production machinery and keep operations running smoothly. This role is hands‑on and fast‑paced, focused on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting breakdowns, and making repairs to electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.

Working under the Maintenance Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key role in equipment uptime, safety, and production quality.

What You’ll Be Doing

What We’re Looking For

  • Willing to work flexible schedules, including overtime when needed
  • Must pass background check and drug screening
