Maintenance Technician Job Description

The Maintenance Technician inspects, tests, maintains, installs, repairs, and modifies systems, equipment, and structures within the hospital.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Inspects, tests, maintains, installs, repairs, and modifies systems, equipment, and structures within the hospital. Coordinates work with additional craftsmen if required.
2. Performs preventive maintenance on systems, equipment, and structures. Collaborates with supervisors to establish and modify maintenance routines.
3. Communicates with supervisory and management personnel, nurses, patients, and staff to ensure optimal patient care and work environment. Maintains professionalism and keeps staff informed about work status.
4. Ensures work complies with local, state, and national codes. Reports violations to management. Uses hand tools, power tools, and test equipment effectively.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Requires standing for up to 8 hours, walking up to 4 hours, sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 60 lbs., pushing up to 300 lbs., and performing bending, crouching, reaching, twisting, climbing, and manual repairs. Normal vision and hearing are required.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) is required.

Training and Experience:

At least three years of experience in trades such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or electronics preferred. Technical school certification may substitute for up to 18 months of experience. Valid state-issued motor vehicle license is required.
