Job summary

Rainbow Omega, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep our facilities safe, clean, and welcoming for residents. You will perform building repairs, grounds maintenance, and equipment upkeep as part of our Facilities Compliance team.

A driver’s license and basic trades experience are required to support safety and operational excellence on campus. The role emphasizes collaboration with house managers and safety committees to address issues promptly and maintain a high standard of care for

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with 3+ years in building trades, groundskeeping, or repairs.
• Must possess Alabama driver's license and pass criminal history, drug screening, TB test.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair interior and exterior building structures, HVAC filters, basic electrical/plumbing, flooring, doors.
• Turnover readiness: repair, clean, and paint vacant units within three business days.
• Groundskeeping: lawn care, pruning, landscaping, drainage, ice removal.
• Equipment upkeep: operate, sharpen, repair, and maintain vehicles and tools.
• Collaborate with House Managers and Safety Committee to resolve safety findings.
• Monitor work with local vendors, coordinate in-house projects, and track progress.

Rainbow Omega, Inc. is a faith-based, non-profit organization providing vocational and residential care programs to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our two specialized Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs) house 10 and 15 residents respectively, fostering a community of safety, medical excellence, and deep compassion.

We are seeking a dedicated Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Compliance Department. In this role, you will be the backbone of our campus—ensuring our buildings, grounds, and vehicles are safe and welcoming for the individuals we serve.

What You Will Do (Essential Duties)

• Building Repairs & Care: Maintain and repair the physical structures (interior and exterior) of all buildings, including HVAC filters, general carpentry, painting, basic electrical/plumbing, flooring, walls, and doors.
• Turnover Readiness: Promptly repair, clean, and paint vacant units to ensure they are beautiful and ready for occupancy, typically within three business days.
• Groundskeeping & Curb Appeal: Keep our campus immaculate by handling lawn care, edging, pruning shrubs, weeding, landscaping, cleaning drainage ditches, and managing winter ice removal.
• Equipment & Tool Upkeep: Properly operate, sharpen, repair, and maintain vehicles, machinery, and tools (mowers, trimmers, blowers, power tools). Keep the maintenance shop organized and inventoried.
• Collaborative Support: Partner closely with House Managers to address the unique needs of our group homes. Work alongside our Safety Committee to quickly resolve safety findings.
• Vendor & Project Coordination: Minimize the use of outside contractors by tackling jobs in-house, and help monitor contracted labor when external support is authorized.
• Reporting: Complete work orders accurately and keep leadership well-informed of maintenance updates, project timelines, and campus needs.

Position Requirements

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or GED required, paired with at least 3 years of experience in the building trades, groundskeeping, or general repair (1 year of college may substitute for 1 year of experience).

Licensing

Must possess and maintain a current Alabama Driver’s License.

Screenings

Must successfully pass a criminal history record check, clean drug screen, and TB screening.

Physical Demands & Environment

• Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, bend, and use power/hand tools.
• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds independently, and assist with transferring individuals as needed.
• Works across indoor facilities and outdoor grounds in varying weather conditions with a moderate noise level.
