Job summary

Ryder System, Inc. is seeking a Technical Trainer to ensure FMS shop staff possess the skills required for their roles, driving maintenance goals, cost control, and safety improvements.

The role requires extensive travel to various locations and focuses on delivering effective training and updating materials. Success in this position relies on strong communication, technical aptitude, and the ability to work independently or in teams while promoting safety and quality across the maintenance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • HS Diploma/GED required.
  • 3+ years with heavy-duty trucks or related components preferred.
  • 1+ year experience managing people and remote personnel preferred.
  • 2+ years in transportation industry preferred.
  • 1+ year in training and development experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer training to FMS maintenance employees.
  • Coordinate training needs, schedules, and attendance with BU leadership.
  • Develop and update training materials and courses.
  • Update training records after course completion.
  • Oversee training facilities to ensure high-quality environments.
  • Communicate training center needs to Operations Leadership.
  • Support Top Technician Recognition Program and safety initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

The role of Technical Trainer ensures that each FMS shop employee possesses the necessary skills and knowledge for their role, contributing to maintenance goals, cost control, customer satisfaction, employee growth, and overall productivity. The Technical Trainer ensures that Ryder’s training meets or exceeds internal customer expectations, enabling trainees to reduce rework, breakdowns, and external expenses. Additionally, this role drives continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency within the FMS maintenance organization.

Essential Functions
  • Administer training to FMS maintenance employees.
  • Coordinate with BU leadership to identify training needs, creation of training schedule, and employee attendance to training session(s).
  • Identify, develop, and update current and new training materials and courses.
  • Update training records promptly upon course completion.
  • Monitor training facilities to ensure they provide high-quality training environments, are adequately supplied, and equipped to support world-class training.
  • Communicate the needs of the training center to Operations Leadership.
  • Operate as catalyst for Top Technician Recognition Program to improve eligibility and participation.
  • Promote and support safety programs.
  • Additional responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred.
  • H.S. Diploma/GED, required.
  • 3 years or more working with heavy duty trucks, tractors, trailers, refrigeration and related components (diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, power train, etc.), preferred.
  • 1 year or more experience in managing people and remote personnel, preferred.
  • 2 years or more in transportation industry, preferred.
  • 1 year or more in prior training and development experience, preferred.
