Job summary

Valdes Architecture & Engineering is seeking a Maintenance Engineer for a Power Plant environment in the United States. The role focuses on ensuring safe operations, performing predictive maintenance, and coordinating maintenance strategies with plant leadership.

You will manage budgets, monitor equipment, and lead staff training to uphold safety and reliability. Qualified candidates bring 4+ years in maintenance or related engineering, strong safety discipline, and instrumentation/control

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in maintenance or related engineering in power plant or equivalent settings.
• Strong commitment to safe work practices and environment.
• Power plant equipment and systems knowledge with instrument/control background.
• Proficiency in predictive maintenance techniques such as thermography, vibration analysis, ultrasound and tribology.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and/or instrumentation maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe work environment; inspect sites; conduct pre-job safety briefs and enforce safety rules.
• Prioritize environmental equipment and systems maintenance to ensure permit compliance.
• Coordinate repair strategies and maintenance schedules with leadership teams.
• Develop budget requests for equipment and systems maintenance and capital improvements; justify projects.
• Track department expenses and forecast monthly budgets.
• Respond to emergency calls outside regular hours.
• Train and evaluate staff in proper tool use and safe practices.
• Assist departments by monitoring equipment and determining maintenance scope and timing of repairs.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe work environment. Inspects job sites and reviews maintenance procedures for hazards. Conducts pre-job safety briefs for all assigned work. Informs employees of safety rules and regulations and consistently enforces them
• Places high priority on environmental equipment and systems maintenance to assure compliance with environmental permits and procedures. Emphasizes the commitment to performing all work in compliance with environmental procedures with crafts and contractors
• Coordinate with the Operations Superintendent, Engineering, and Plant Manager to develop effective repair strategies and maintenance schedules
• Informs employees of work performance standards and expectations
• Develop budget requests for plant equipment and systems maintenance and capital improvements. Submit initiatives that define the project purpose, scope, estimated cost and benefits. Follow through with implementation of approved projects
• Control and track department expenses to operate within budget. Forecast expenses on a Monthly basis
• Responds to emergency calls outside of his or her normal work schedule on a regular basis
• Trains and evaluates employees in the proper use of tools, machinery, maintenance procedures and practices, and safe work practices
• Assist operating departments in monitoring equipment and troubleshooting abnormal operating conditions. Determine the appropriate maintenance scope and timing of repairs

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in Maintenance or other related Engineering discipline obtained in Power Plant similar industrial process or military service
• Understands and committed to maintaining safe work practices
• Strong technical background and understanding of Power Plant equipment and systems and operations with instrument and control background
• Ability to utilize predictive maintenance techniques such as thermography, vibration analysis, ultrasound, and tribology
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and/or instrumentation maintenance procedures and work practices
• Able to effectively manage several projects at one time
• Understanding of the elements of the maintenance management process
• Able to effectively communicate through a variety of media with supervisors, peers, and subordinates
• Familiar with other maintenance disciplines and understands relationship between equipment mechanical, electrical and controls
• Must possess exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
• Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

• Experience or formal training in Power Plant operating departments, project management, and maintenance management practices

$29 - $42 an hour

Salaries for all positions are based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, total years of experience in the industry, education, skills, and qualifications. Compensation may vary depending on the candidate’s individual background and expertise.Salaries are subject to fluctuation outside of the given range.
