Job summary

Chelsea Retirement Community is seeking a Maintenance Technician (Painter) to help keep our senior living environment safe, comfortable, and attractive. You will perform painting, wall repair, and preventive upkeep across the community, with additional duties in plumbing and electrical as needed.

We value dependable, detail-oriented team members who take pride in delivering clean, well-maintained spaces for residents, families, and staff. This is a full-time on-site role in Chelsea, MI.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a maintenance role, preferably in senior living or residential settings.
• Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.).
• Proficiency with maintenance tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Complete apartment refresh work, including patching, repairing walls, ceilings, and interior painting.
• Perform routine maintenance across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
• Respond to resident requests and troubleshoot reported repair needs.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and regular inspections of equipment and facilities.
• Ensure turnover spaces are functional and safe for new residents.
• Document maintenance activities and report major concerns to supervisor.
• Provide courteous service and clear communication about repairs.

Schedule: Full-Time 40 hours/week | 7:30 am- 4 pm | Weekend rotation - one every 6 weeks
Shift Premiums: 2:30 pm - 10:30 pm $1.00 | 10:31 pm - 7:00 am $0.75 | Weekend (Fri 10:31 pm - Sun 11:00 pm) $1.00

Description

As a Maintenance Technician, you’ll help keep our senior living community safe, comfortable, and well-maintained for residents, families, and team members. This hands-on role includes routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, apartment refreshes, and preventive upkeep throughout the community.
We are especially looking for someone with a strong painting background and solid wall-repair skills, as apartment refresh work is an important part of this position. You’ll patch and repair walls and ceilings, complete interior painting, and help ensure apartments are move-in ready. You’ll also assist with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, mechanical systems, and general building maintenance.
This is a great fit for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, skilled with their hands, and takes pride in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete apartment refresh work, including patching and repairing walls and ceilings and completing interior painting.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, mechanical systems, and general building upkeep.
• Respond to maintenance requests and troubleshoot repair needs reported by residents and team members.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and regular inspections of equipment, systems, and community buildings.
• Ensure appliances, plumbing, and electrical systems are functioning properly during apartment turnover and refresh work.
• Follow established maintenance schedules, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Maintain tools, equipment, supplies, and replacement materials needed for maintenance work.
• Provide professional, courteous service to residents, families, and team members while communicating maintenance needs and updates.
• Document completed maintenance, repairs, and inspections and report major concerns to the supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience in a maintenance role, preferably in a senior living or residential community setting.
• Strong knowledge of building systems and equipment (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.).
• Proficiency in using maintenance tools and equipment.
• Position requires a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
• Position requires the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance.

Preferred

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or vocational training in maintenance or a related field.
