Qualifications

Job Title: Maintenance Technician II - Journeyman

Location: Crystal Lake, Illinois Compensation: $65,000–$85,000 annually, depending on experience and overtime

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician II to support a high-volume manufacturing environment. This is a journeyman-level position for an industrial maintenance professional who can troubleshoot independently, support production equipment uptime, complete preventive maintenance, and contribute to equipment reliability improvements.

The Maintenance Technician II will provide multi-craft maintenance capabilities across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding, fabrication, and controls-related systems.

The successful candidate will work with limited supervision, accurately document work in the CMMS, participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives, and help develop less-experienced maintenance technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical systems on production equipment.

  • Facility support systems
  • Use systematic troubleshooting methods to identify root causes and return equipment to safe operating condition.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, repairs, adjustments, lubrication, and component replacements according to assigned schedules.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, equipment drawings, and P&IDs.
  • Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems up to 480V within applicable safety policies, authorization requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Navigate PLC and HMI systems to identify equipment faults, alarms, interlocks, and operating conditions.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical power transmission components, including:
  • Bearings
  • Gearboxes
  • Belts
  • Chains
  • Sprockets
  • Couplings
  • Shafts
  • Sheaves
  • Drive assemblies
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including valves, cylinders, regulators, pumps, manifolds, and related components.
  • Perform basic welding, fabrication, cutting, grinding, and equipment repair as required.
  • Participate in root cause analysis, Kaizen, continuous improvement, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and assist Maintenance Technician I employees with safe work practices, troubleshooting methods, and equipment knowledge.
  • Accurately complete work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, corrective actions, parts usage, and troubleshooting notes in the CMMS.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all safety, quality, environmental, and housekeeping standards.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2–5 years of progressive industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, production, distribution, or similar industrial environment.
  • Must have demonstrated the qualifications necessary to perform Tier II maintenance work independently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems with minimal supervision.
  • Industrial electrical troubleshooting experience up to 480V within applicable safety and authorization requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and P&IDs.
  • Experience independently completing corrective maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Basic PLC/HMI navigation and troubleshooting capability.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting experience.
  • Basic welding certification or documented welding experience preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred or ability to obtain as required.
  • CMRT certification or equivalent maintenance/reliability credential preferred.
  • Forklift and aerial lift certification preferred or ability to obtain as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, or assist less-experienced technicians.
  • Proven ability to complete preventive maintenance and work orders accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Strong commitment to safety, attendance, teamwork, communication, and housekeeping standards.
Work Environment & Schedule

This position is performed in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to production equipment, moving machinery, noise, dust, heat, and changing priorities.

The Maintenance Technician II must be able to respond to equipment breakdowns and support production needs in a timely manner.

Overtime, weekend work, shift coverage, or call-in support may be required based on business needs.

All applicable safety requirements must be followed, including lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, hot work, PPE, and other site-specific procedures.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, and work around production equipment throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance or approved lifting equipment.
  • Ability to work from ladders, platforms, aerial lifts, and elevated work areas using approved fall protection where required.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when trained, authorized, and required by the task.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic tools, meters, welding equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
