Simmons Foods in Emporia, KS seeks a skilled Maintenance Technician to repair and maintain processing equipment across the facility. You will troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure operations meet safety and quality standards in a fast-paced poultry processing environment.

The role requires experience in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics. You will work with engineers and vendors, follow LEAN practices, and collaborate with team members

Qualifications

• Experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.
• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Preference for poultry or food processing experience.

Assist in equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures in the operation of the facility where employed.

Essential Position Responsibilities

Repairs, replaces, corrects or affects equipment as needed to ensure equipment operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements.

Consults with Engineers and vendors as needed. Accomplishes layout work for each project as needed. Will be able to troubleshoot equipment.

Meets safety requirements in accomplishing responsibilities of this position complying with all policies or regulations set forth by Simmons or various government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicle, handling of food products, packaging, ingredients and any related items.

Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Must be able to manually lift or move objects weighing 75-150 pounds. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, on feet for entire shift. Must be able to work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, dirty area with a noise level above 90 decibels.

Travel: NA

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Will use appropriate footwear, hearing protection and other protective equipment as needed or required.

Technical Experience: Must have experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.

Industry Experience: Preference for poultry or food processing organization.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Competencies: Communication skills & decision quality - Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.
