Transylvania County is seeking a part-time Maintenance Technician to perform maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping across county facilities, parks, and equipment. The role includes preventive maintenance, facility repairs, equipment operation, and basic landscaping duties to keep buildings, fields, and systems safe and functional.

The ideal candidate will have HS diploma or equivalent, experience in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or related trades, and a valid NC driver

Responsibilities

  • Complete work orders and maintain maintenance records.
  • Assist with security equipment, plumbing, and electrical tasks as needed.
  • Maintain athletic fields, lawns, and grounds; perform landscaping tasks.
  • Operate maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, and hand tools.
  • Respond to facility maintenance needs and support safety protocols.

Job description

The Part-Time Maintenance Technician performs intermediate skilled trade work in maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties to support County facilities, parks, and equipment. This position is responsible for helping maintain safe, functional, and well-maintained buildings, grounds, athletic fields, and mechanical systems. Work includes preventive maintenance, facility repairs, equipment operation, and general grounds maintenance.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) equipment.
  • Complete assigned work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Assi...lment offire alarm systems and safety equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of motorized equipment and vehicles.
  • Operate maintenance equipment including mowers, tractors, dump trucks, and various hand and power tools.
  • Install and repair flooring, tile, and other building materials.
  • Assist with concrete work, including forming and pouring sidewalks and related structures.
  • Install and maintain security-related equipment.
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain County athletic fields, including mowing, lining, dragging, and preparing fields for recreational activities.
  • Perform landscaping and grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, weed eating, trimming, and general upkeep.
  • Collect trash and maintain cleanliness of County parks and restroom facilities.
  • Respond to facility maintenance needs and perform other related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should have knowledge, skills, and experience in:

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with type of work assigned.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools of the trade.
  • Ability to recognize and diagnose problems.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to make decisions within scope of responsibility.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Minimum Education and Experience

High School Diploma or its equivalent. Preferred experience consists of general building maintenance, facility operations, grounds maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or a related skilled trade; and experience operating lawn maintenance equipment, tractors, or other maintenance machinery.

Additional Requirements
  • Valid North Carolina Drivers License
  • Successful completion of SBI background check with required fingerprinting by Sheriff Office.
  • Successful completion Transylvania County standard background check
  • Successful completion drug screening
