Job summary

Hubbell Incorporated seeks a Maintenance Technician to upkeep production equipment, facilities, and grounds in compliance with laws and company guidelines.

You will perform preventive maintenance on motors, conveyors, and machines, replacement of defective parts, and fabrication of repair parts using mills and lathes. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems is valued.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical school training in maintenance-related fields preferred and can improve candidacy.
  • 3–5 years of related maintenance experience recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on motors, conveyors, and production machines using diagrams and manuals.
  • Replace defective parts and perform root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Measure and adjust parts with precision tools (calipers, micrometers) and alignments.
  • Respond quickly to downtime, communicating status to production teams.
  • Fabricate repair parts with mills, lathes, and drill presses as needed.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of equipment and parts, forecasting future needs.
  • Exercise resource conservation to minimize waste and cost.
  • Provide maintenance data and reports by collecting and analyzing trends.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and keep skills up to date.
  • Document actions, irregularities, and needs to ensure team continuity.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment by following procedures.
  • Assist team efforts to meet overall maintenance objectives.
  • Operate advanced equipment including HMIs, VFDs, and PLCs.

Job Overview

The maintenance position is responsible for upkeeping production equipment, facilities, and grounds in compliance with all relevant laws and company guidelines. The company provides all necessary tools, equipment, and training required to perform these tasks effectively.

A Day In The Life
  • Ensure Efficient Operation of Machinery and Equipment: Complete preventive maintenance for motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines. Follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications to troubleshoot malfunctions effectively.
  • Part Replacement and Repair: Remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, hand tools, and power tools; conduct root‑cause analysis to prevent future failures.
  • Measurement and Adjustment: Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts using precision measuring instruments such as rules, calipers, and micrometers. Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Downtime Management: Respond promptly to production downtime events to minimize equipment unavailability. Communicate maintenance status effectively to production workers, covering both emergency repairs and routine preventive maintenance.
  • Fabrication of Repair Parts: Utilize machine‑shop instruments and equipment, including mills, lathes, and drill presses, to fabricate necessary repair parts.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, parts, and supplies by regularly checking stock levels and anticipating future needs based on trends and usage.
  • Resource Conservation: Utilize equipment and supplies efficiently to achieve maintenance objectives without excess expenditure or waste.
  • Information and Reporting: Provide mechanical maintenance information responsively to inquiries and requests. Prepare detailed maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing operational data and trends.
  • Professional Development: Keep technical knowledge up to date by participating in educational workshops and reviewing technical publications.
  • Teamwork and Documentation: Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs clearly and promptly.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Ensure a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contribution to Team Efforts: Support overall team objectives by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Advanced Equipment Handling: Perform adjustments on equipment using Human‑Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
Specialized Knowledge Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of power systems up to 480V and associated ARC Flash safety requirements.
  • General knowledge of facilities repair including plumbing, construction, welding, and HVAC systems.

  • Educational Background: A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required. Additional education from a technical school, especially related to maintenance fields such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing, is preferred and can make a candidate more competitive.
  • Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three to five years of related experience in maintenance roles. This experience helps ensure that the candidate is familiar with the duties of the job and can perform them effectively from the start.
  • Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electrical systems, plumbing, and carpentry are crucial. These skills are essential for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and executing repairs.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure. This includes working with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, which is important for tasks like measuring, cutting, and calculating material quantities.
  • Safety and Emergency Response: Ability to respond appropriately to safety and emergency situations is critical. This includes knowledge of emergency protocols, safety procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills are necessary to interact with various levels within the company, from peers to management. This includes the ability to listen well, understand problems, and convey solutions clearly.
