Klöckner & Co SE in Chicago, IL is seeking a Maintenance Technician to coordinate preventive maintenance on OEM equipment, address immediate operational and safety concerns, and ensure all machinery stays in good working order. You will work with OEMs and internal teams to troubleshoot breakdowns, document work orders, and maintain parts inventory while upholding safety standards and quality.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma and technical background; vocational training preferred.
• Minimum 2 years mechanical experience; agricultural/automotive a plus.
• Strong background in electrical systems, hydraulics, air brakes and diesel engines as well as transmissions and clutches.

Responsibilities

• Ensures operation of the facility and operational equipment by completing preventive maintenance requests and coordinating with OEM on production equipment.
• Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices and working with OEM manufacturer.
• Performs facility maintenance tasks and coordinates with outside contractors.
• Controls downtime by informing production scheduler of preventive maintenance performed by OEM or internal maintenance.
• Fabricates repair parts by internal engineering and company equipment.
• Maintains spare parts inventory provided by OEM.
• Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies efficiently.
• Troubleshoots and addresses sudden breakdowns with OEM manufacturers.
• Prepares maintenance information and documents work orders in company software.
• Keeps technical knowledge current by attending workshops and networking with suppliers.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment per procedures and regulations.
• Contributes to team effort by achieving related results.

Job description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for coordinating all OEM equipment PM service work and internal breakdowns to include addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns and ensuring all equipment and machines are in good working order.

Summary of Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

• Ensures operation of the facility and operational equipment by completing preventive maintenance requests, working with OEM on production equipment to include lasers, plasma/flame, press brakes, CNC Mill, fork trucks up to 45,000# capacity.
• Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation and working with OEM manufacturer.
• Ability to perform facility maintenance tasks and working with outside contractors
• Controls downtime by informing production scheduler of routine preventive maintenance performed by OEM manufacturer and or internal maintenance
• Fabricates repair parts by internal engineering and company equipment
• Maintains spare parts inventory provided by OEM
• Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
• Works with equipment OEM manufacturers to troubleshoot and address any sudden breakdowns
• Prepares mechanical maintenance information to include all work order requests and document in company maintenance software
• Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and establishing personal networks for equipment and parts suppliers
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Qualifications

• High school degree and technical background required, trade/vocational school preferred
• Minimum 2 years mechanical experience required, agricultural and/or automotive a plus
• Strong background in electrical systems (including wiring schematics), hydraulics, air brakes and diesel engines as well as transmissions and clutches
• Great communication skills, ability to work well with others and exchange skills and knowledge with other company employees
• Able to work without direct supervision
• Service shop experience preferred
• Ability to lift heavy mechanical components and work outside in all types of weather
• Demonstrated reliable work history and ability to work independently
• Ability to pass a physical examination for vision, hearing, and mobility
• Must be detail-oriented with a strong focus on precision and quality in all tasks
