Job summary

Goodwill Industries Of North Louisiana Inc is seeking a Maintenance Team Member to help keep facilities safe, functional, and welcoming for staff, clients, donors, and customers. You will perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, preventive tasks, painting, and general upkeep across multiple Goodwill NLA locations, often working independently.

You will operate a Goodwill maintenance vehicle, use hand and power tools, and coordinate with location leadership to minimize disruption.

SUMMARY:The Maintenance Team Member role supports the mission of Improving People’s Lives Through the Power of Work by helping maintain safe, functional, and welcoming facilities for employees, clients, donors, and customers.The Maintenance Team Member performs routine maintenance, minor repairs, preventive maintenance, assembly, installation, painting, and general facility upkeep at Goodwill NLA locations. This position completes assigned maintenance requests, identifies concerns that cannot be safely addressed through routine maintenance, and communicates when additional assistance or an outside service provider may be needed.The position works independently at multiple Goodwill NLA locations, operates a Goodwill maintenance vehicle, uses common hand and power tools, and is responsible for completing assigned work safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to operations.REPORTS TO:Director of RetailESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintenance & RepairsConducts scheduled visits to Goodwill NLA properties to visually inspect facilities, grounds, fixtures, and equipment; identifies routine maintenance needs and reports significant or unresolved concerns to the Director of Retail.Completes assigned routine maintenance, minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and general property upkeep at Goodwill NLA locations.Performs basic maintenance tasks such as painting walls, curbs, and parking-area markings; patching minor wall damage; changing filters; replacing or tightening hardware; and maintaining interior and exterior areas.Assembles, repairs, installs, moves, or secures furniture, carts, shelving, fixtures, signs, and other equipment as assigned.Performs reasonable temporary repairs or protective measures to address immediate facility concerns and protect people or property until permanent repairs can be completed.Performs basic exterior maintenance and pest-response activities using approved products and following applicable safety instructions.Inspects reported maintenance concerns and communicates when repairs require specialized knowledge, equipment, licensing, or an outside service provider.Performs only work for which the employee has the appropriate knowledge, training, and authorization.Tools, Vehicle & SuppliesSafely uses and maintains hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other maintenance equipment appropriate to assigned work and training.Maintains tools, equipment, parts, and supplies in a safe, clean, organized, and serviceable condition and reports damaged equipment or needed supplies.Safely operates and maintains assigned Goodwill NLA maintenance vehicles and completes required vehicle inspections, mileage records, and other documentation.Safely transports and secures tools, equipment, materials, and supplies between locations.Uses agency purchasing and fuel cards only for authorized business purposes and maintains required receipts and documentation.Safety & Work ManagementFollows applicable safety procedures, uses required PPE, and follows safe practices for lifting, ladders, tools, equipment, and maintenance products.Maintains safe work areas and promptly reports unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, property damage, or equipment concerns.Receives and completes assigned maintenance requests and communicates progress, delays, needed materials, and unresolved concerns to appropriate staff.Coordinates with location leadership to complete work safely and with minimal disruption to operations.Completes required work orders, inspection records, receipts, and other basic maintenance documentation.Professional StandardsMaintains professional and respectful interactions with employees, participants, customers, donors, vendors, and other individuals encountered while performing assigned work.Follows agency policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.Attends required meetings, safety training, equipment training, and professional development.Performs other duties as assigned in support of facility operations and the organizational mission.QUALIFICATIONS:Education and/or Experience: High school diploma, HiSET/GED, or equivalent preferred.Previous experience or demonstrated hands-on ability in general maintenance, facilities, construction, property upkeep, repair work, or a related area is required.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.No trade license or professional maintenance certification is required. Employees must complete and maintain any safety, equipment, or position-specific training or authorization required for assigned duties, including required ladder safety training.Screenings: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, motor vehicle record review, drug screening, and any other screenings required by agency policy.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Basic knowledge of general facility maintenance, minor repairs, preventive maintenance, painting, assembly, and property upkeep.Ability to safely use common hand and power tools and other equipment appropriate to assigned work.Ability to follow instructions, diagrams, measurements, product labels, and safety procedures.Ability to recognize when a maintenance issue requires additional assistance or a qualified service provider.Basic problem-solving skills and ability to complete assigned work independently.Ability to organize work, manage time, and follow through on assigned tasks.Ability to communicate maintenance needs, work completed, and unresolved concerns to supervisors and location staff.Basic computer and mobile-device skills necessary to receive assignments, communicate, and complete required documentation.Physical Demands and Work Environment:The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and working in varied positions to access facility, equipment, and maintenance areas. The employee frequently uses the hands, wrists, and arms to grip, manipulate, and operate hand tools, power tools, hardware, equipment, and mobile devices and may work overhead or at varying heights while painting, installing, repairing, or maintaining facilities and equipment.The employee regularly lifts, carries, pushes, pulls, or moves tools, materials, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Team lifting or appropriate material-handling equipment must be used when an item cannot be safely moved by one person. The position requires climbing and working from ladders after completion of required ladder safety training.The employee frequently enters, exits, and operates a motor vehicle while traveling between Goodwill NLA locations and transports tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.Work is performed in office, retail, warehouse, donation, transportation, and other operational environments and includes both indoor and outdoor work. The employee may be exposed to heat, cold, rain or other weather conditions; dust and airborne particles; noise; moving equipment; uneven surfaces; and commonly used maintenance products such as paint, adhesives, cleaning products, and approved pesticides. Appropriate PPE and safety procedures must be used as required.Frequent local travel between Goodwill NLA locations is required. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required based on operational or facility needs.
