Job summary

Freudenberg Group in Illinois is seeking a Maintenance Lead to manage a team of 10-15 technicians, ensuring the reliable operation and upkeep of plant equipment, facilities, and systems.

You will lead preventive and corrective maintenance, coordinate schedules, enforce safety, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining documentation and inventory.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of maintenance experience in manufacturing, preference for high-volume or injection molding environments.
• Lead or direct others in previous roles.
• Strong troubleshooting on injection molding machines, automation, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to read/interpret manuals, blueprints, electrical/mechanical schematics, ladder logic.
• Basic computer skills: MS Office, CMMS or maintenance software.
• Strong communication and leadership with time-priority task management.
• Technical degree or equivalent certifications preferred.
• Automation or controls training and experience with auxiliary equipment; fanuc robots preferred.
• Root cause analysis and continuous improvement familiarity preferred.
• Ability to evaluate equipment performance and develop maintenance strategies.

The Maintenance Lead oversees a team of approximately 10 - 15 maintenance technicians, ensuring the effective operation, repair, and upkeep of equipment, facilities, and systems. This role blends technical expertise with leadership responsibilities to maintain safety, efficiency, and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and support maintenance staff; delegate tasks and monitor performance.
• Maintenance Operations: Coordinate and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and facility systems.
• Scheduling & Planning: Organize daily work schedules, prioritize tasks, and respond to urgent repair needs.
• Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment status.
• Inventory Management: Monitor and manage tools, parts, and supplies.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Ability to work 3rd shift (10 pm - 6 am Sunday night through Friday morning).

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment required (preference for high-volume manufacturing or injection molding).
• Previous leadership or lead technician experience (must have led or directed others) required.
• Strong troubleshooting skills required in: Injection molding machines; Automation systems; Mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret the following is required: Technical manuals; Blueprints; Electrical and mechanical schematics; Ladder logic.
• Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Office, CMMS, or maintenance software).
• Strong communication, leadership, and team coordination skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively is required.
• Technical degree or equivalent technical certifications preferred.
• Specialized training in automation or controls, and experience with Auxiliary equipment (compressors, chillers, dryers, etc.); Material handling systems; and Fanuc robots (programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance) preferred.
• Familiarity with root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
• Ability to evaluate equipment performance and develop long-term maintenance strategies preferred.
