Job summary

Altium Packaging in Sparta, Tennessee seeks an Industrial Equipment Supervisor to oversee maintenance and automation of plant equipment. You will lead a technical team, develop preventive maintenance plans, and drive automation projects to boost productivity.

The role focuses on safety, efficient operations, and collaboration with engineering and production. Night shift, Tue–Sat, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3+ years in industrial equipment maintenance and/or automation in plastics industry.
• Leadership experience and team development preferred.
• Experience with automation projects and safety compliance.

The Industrial Equipment Supervisor will oversee the maintenance and automation of all industrial equipment within the Plant. This role involves managing a team of technicians, implementing preventive maintenance programs, and driving automation initiatives to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.

This is a night shift position working Tuesday through Saturday.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of industrial equipment technicians.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Maintenance Management:
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Ensure timely troubleshooting and repair of equipment to maintain optimal production levels.
  • Oversee maintenance records and ensure accurate documentation of all maintenance activities.
• Automation Initiatives:
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify automation opportunities.
  • Implement automation solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Stay updated on the latest automation technologies and recommend upgrades as necessary.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions to promote a culture of safety.
• Vendor and Inventory Management:
  • Manage relationships with equipment vendors and service providers to ensure high-quality support.
  • Oversee inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies, ensuring availability when needed.
• Reporting and Communication:
  • Prepare and present reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and automation projects to plant leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to coordinate maintenance and automation efforts.

• Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and developing technical teams.
• In-depth knowledge of industrial automation systems, PLC programming, and robotics.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure.
• Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in industrial settings.
• Proficiency in maintenance management software and data analysis tools.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Ability to work flexible hours and respond to emergency situations as needed.
• Knowledge of the plastics industry, equipment and processes is a plus.

Education/Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Proven experience (3+ years) in industrial equipment maintenance and/or automation within the plastic industry.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job site can be loud. Employee could be exposed to seasonal weather conditions if required to go outdoors. Proper use of PPE is required in Production area at all times.

Physical Demands

• Ability to perform a standing job for 12 consecutive hours.
• Remain stationary extended periods of time.
• Move around the production floor.
• Move, adjust, and position anywhere from 10 to 45 pounds.
• Identify, recognize and assess documents, machinery and more.
• Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, reach and grasp for varying periods of time during a consecutive 12-hour period.
• Ability to move between buildings regardless of weather conditions.
