Job description

Provides a safe and mechanically sound working environment in the distribution center. Coordinates the daily activities of the maintenance department to ensure rapid response to departmental requests for repair or service. Identifies performance indicators. Develops and communicates action plans for improvement.

DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Utilizes Productivity Improvement Plan process to identify areas for improvement and assists Maintenance Manager in development of a measurement system.
  2. Reviews inbound and outbound S&OP reports and assists in department planning; makes adjustments based on distribution center needs.
  3. Identifies obstacles to performance through floor observations.
  4. Reviews daily staffing plan of department/shift with Maintenance Manager; determines proper staffing level based on receiving/shipping volume and departmental projects.
  5. Establishes work schedules based on preventative maintenance requirements.
  6. Conducts sortation audits and analyzes results to determine system and personnel adjustments.
  7. Ensures training is provided for all maintenance employees.
  8. Supports safety programs to reduce employee injuries in coordination with safety committee.
  9. Partners with Maintenance Manager and HR to ensure OSHA compliance; serves as backup contact for governmental agencies.
  10. Maintains status reports on building and facility insurance documentation.
  11. Assists Maintenance Manager with department budget.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

  1. Ability to interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
  2. Perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
  3. Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
  4. Learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including report generation.
  5. Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
  6. Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies (deposits, store keys, SAFE and STARS programs, etc.)
  7. Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance.
  8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  9. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  10. Problem-solving abilities in situations with limited standardization.

WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:

  1. Analytical skills and attention to detail.
  2. Ability to read blueprints, electrical, mechanical, and communication diagrams.
  3. Understanding of conveyor systems, sort view, and graphical monitors.
  4. Knowledge of fire protection systems.
  5. Ability to interpret system reports, alarm reports, variance reports, and OSHA logs.
  6. Good written and oral communication skills.
  7. Computer skills: Word, Excel, AutoCAD, and PLCs.

WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. On-call 24/7 to support operations.
  2. Maintenance experience required.
  3. Experience in automated retail distribution centers preferred.
  4. Minimum two years supervisory experience.
  5. Vocational training as a tradesperson (mechanical, electrical, welding, hydraulic, pneumatics).
