Job Description: Maintenance Supervisor

3rd Shift 10pm-8am

The primary focus of this position is to increase the efficiencies and overall throughput of the production equipment. To accomplish this, the Maintenance Supervisor assists the Maintenance Manager in the supervision and coordination of activities of workers engaged in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery, equipment, and inventory by performing the following duties:

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assists the Maintenance Manager directing workers in the maintenance and repair of plant operational systems including facility, refrigeration, electrical, air and piping, PLC, filling, packaging and support equipment.
  • Leads workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts and lubricates and cleans parts as needed in accordance with food/beverage manufacturing quality system practices.
  • Monitors and assists in the requisition of supplies and spare parts.
  • Inspects and monitors work areas, examines tools and equipment, and provides employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
  • Responsible for assisting the Maintenance Manager with the PM Program, developing PM's, assigning the work & tracking completion of preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Reviews work orders to determine schedules, sequences, and assignments of work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
  • Motivates, develops and directs subordinates as they work and reviews work performance.
  • Assists in the establishment of work procedures and schedules to meet production needs.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product and enforces safety regulations.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Assists the Maintenance Manager in the resolution of work problems.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and communicates changes effectively.
  • Includes appropriate people in decision-making process and supports and explains reasoning for decisions.
  • Manages competing demands and changes approach or method to best fit the situation.
  • Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events and reacts well under pressure.
  • Writes and speaks clearly and informatively.
  • Able to read and interpret written information and present numerical data effectively.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and generates suggestions for improving work.
  • Follows policies and procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Observes safety and security procedures and reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and completes work in timely manner.
  • Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills.
  • Is consistently at work and on time and commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assists in supervising 9-11 hourly employees in the Maintenance Department. Carries out management/supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:

Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and be proficient in the use of Internet software; Inventory software; Project Management software; Maintenance Software (Maintenance Connection), Spreadsheet software (Excel), Word Processing software (Word) and Email Software (Office 365).
