RESPONSIBILITIES

This staff position has direct responsibility for supervising all union maintenance personnel. They oversee the shop during their assigned shift and support the operations department's vehicle availability needs. Responsibilities include evaluating vehicle conditions, making decisions during breakdowns, handling routine personnel matters, and conducting training activities.

HOURS OF WORK

Primarily 3rd Shift: Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 PM to 07:30 AM. Hours may change based on operational needs.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

1. Supervise maintenance personnel to ensure compliance with work schedules by being actively present on the work floor.
2. Use the maintenance information system to prepare work orders for repairs and preventive maintenance (PM) inspections, documenting all activities.
3. Schedule all preventive maintenance inspections and repairs using the system.
4. Assist mechanics as needed.
5. Monitor maintenance worker schedules to ensure adequate staffing on each shift.
6. Review completed work orders and PM documentation.
7. Advise the Director and Manager on parts stocking levels based on fleet trends.
8. Pull and document parts requested by mechanics.
9. Assist dispatchers with road call requests, ensuring timely responses.
10. Perform inspections and inventories of assets, including materials, supplies, vehicles, and transit centers.
11. Generate necessary paperwork, package parts for repairs, and assist with inventory management.
12. Perform other duties as assigned and be available for calls during emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma plus supervisory experience or training.
• Experience with transit buses, either mechanical or supervisory.
• Experience working in a unionized environment.
• At least 5 years of related experience.
• Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
• Proficiency with computer programs such as Word and Excel.
• Ability to work effectively with personnel, vendors, and contractors.
