Job summary

Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead day-to-day maintenance on production equipment, manage the PM program, and coordinate capital projects. The role requires hands-on leadership, strong mechanical/electrical skills, and experience with ERP/CMMS systems.

You will work on the shop floor with the maintenance team, drive safety, and collaborate with the Manufacturing Manager to meet reliability goals, with opportunities for professional growth and a competitive

Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years industrial or facility maintenance experience required.
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in a lead, senior technician, or supervisor/coordinator role strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to lead a team, set expectations, and hold team members accountable while remaining hands-on
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in managing capital projects, including planning, budgeting, and execution, strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to implement and optimize preventative maintenance systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and work instructions
  • Comfortable both on the shop floor and in ERP systems
  • Strong organization, time-management, and prioritization skills, with a focus on follow-through
  • Clear, confident, and respectful communication with internal teams and external vendors
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and equipment reliability

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on production equipment as a working supervisor.
  • Lead and coordinate daily maintenance activities alongside the team.
  • Plan, manage, and execute capital projects tied to facility and equipment upgrades.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance (PM) system, leveraging software and best practices to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and basic pneumatic/hydraulic issues.
  • Prioritize, assign, and follow through on work orders and maintenance backlog, ensuring timely completion.
  • Align maintenance activities with production plans, safety requirements, and reliability goals.
  • Serve as the primary maintenance contact for production and other departments, communicating clearly and proactively.
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and accountability for maintenance team members.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of maintenance staff to build a strong, reliable team.
  • Coordinate and oversee vendors and contractors on-site, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
  • Create and manage purchase requisitions for parts, tools, and services with cost and urgency in mind.
  • Maintain accurate records, PM schedules, and CMMS data to support planning and decision-making.
  • Analyze maintenance data and trends to continuously improve PM schedules, reduce downtime, and enhance equipment reliability.
  • Support and drive improvements to maintenance procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Help plan and execute minor projects and equipment upgrades from concept through completion.
  • Enforce and model all safety practices and FMD values on the shop floor.

Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is a hands-on leader responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing day-to-day maintenance activities. This role owns preventive maintenance, repairs, work orders, and vendor coordination, while actively working on the shop floor. The Supervisor leads the maintenance team by example, serves as the primary maintenance contact for production, manages requisitions and documentation, and partners closely with the Manufacturing Manager to set priorities and drive initiatives that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, a proven track record of leading people and holding them accountable, and clear, consistent communication with all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
