Job summary

Flex-N-Gate Detroit is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance staff and oversee general building and production maintenance at the Detroit facility. The role covers HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems to support site goals.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, maintenance coordination experience, and the ability to manage diverse duties, prioritize work, and coordinate with contractors. This is a full-time on-site position in Detroit, MI.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or equivalent maintenance experience.
• AA degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus.
• Minimum 5 years experience in operation and maintenance in stamping/molding environments.

Responsibilities

• Supervise maintenance staff and ensure tasks are completed quickly and within budget.
• Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production machines and facility equipment.
• Provide emergency and scheduled repairs during production and machine service.
• Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
• Carry out mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
• Diagnose problems, replace parts, test and adjust.
• Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and facilities.
• Use hand and power tools, meters and equipment to perform duties.
• Coordinate contractor activities for projects.
• Update and maintain records in databases and maintenance schedules.
• Set priorities for maintenance work orders and requisitions.
• Maintain adequate supplies for the maintenance department.
• Plan short-term maintenance decisions and communicate with authorities.

Scope of the Position

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for supervising maintenance staff, and will perform general building and production maintenance. The Maintenance Supervisor will maintain HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems and equipment, and coordinate the day to day operation of the maintenance department. Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site's business goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the maintenance staff, and ensure that all requisite tasks are handled quickly and efficiently within budget restraints
• Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the facility's equipment
• Provide emergency/ unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service
• Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities
• Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines
• Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments
• Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and facilities
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties
• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
• Perform all other duties as assigned or needed
• Coordinate and monitor contractor activities for projects
• Update and maintain information in records systems and department databases
• Set priorities for preventative maintenance work orders, maintenance requisitions and scheduled work
• Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for the maintenance department
• Responsible for short-term planning and keeping appropriate authorities aware of decisions being made

Qualifications

• High school diploma/ GED. Completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and Maintenance Coordination experience
• An AA degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus
• highly motivated and able to work independently
• Minimum 5 years experience in the operation and maintenance in a stamping/ molding environment
• Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing
• Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
• Ability to maintain organization of maintenance schedule and files in a changing environment
• Exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership
• Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills
• Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation
• Strong communication and problem solving skills
• Able to create alternative solutions to problems
• Possess a valid driver license
• Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse work environment
• Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
