Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead electrical and mechanical maintenance inside our mill. You will supervise technicians, enforce safety, and coordinate with operations to keep equipment running efficiently.

The position requires a BS in Engineering or equivalent, at least five years of supervisory maintenance in heavy industry, and strong problem solving, leadership, and communication skills. JDE experience and knowledge of paper mill processes are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers and enforces safety program for maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold maximum safety standards.
• Supervises Maintenance Technicians in setting up, installing, rebuilding and maintaining equipment and assets.
• Supports capital projects; assists in equipment materials selection and layout for maintainability; ensures spare parts inventory.
• Receives feedback from Maintenance Technicians to adjust work plans.
• Communicates with operations to coordinate maintenance and repair in process areas.
• Responds to calls 24 hrs/day; provides rotating weekend/holiday on-call support.
• Maintains and utilizes JDE for work orders; creates schedules and tracks time in Kronos.
• Maintains knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and environmental policies/regulations.

Job description

The Maintenance Supervisor position is responsible for supervising, directing and coordinating the work of maintenance personnel (electrical and mechanical) within the mill. The Supervisor ensures the safety of the workforce, provides quality and efficient execution of assigned work, monitors staff and crew performance, provides problem analysis for equipment history, submits accurate reports of work execution, takes appropriate action in response to emergencies, and administers company policies as they relate to assigned personnel. This position reports to the maintenance and engineering manager.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Administers and models safety in his/her area of responsibility; Participates in and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance employees. Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and plant safety standards.
• Safely and efficiently supervises and coordinates activities of Maintenance Technicians engaged in setting up, installing, rebuilding and maintaining equipment and building assets.
• Provides support with capital projects; participating in equipment materials selection and layout to optimize maintainability; promoting consistency by standardizing equipment; providing technical expertise for installation, maintenance procedures and start-up of all new critical equipment; assuring that necessary spare parts are identified and inventory maintained.
• Provides for a process to receive feedback from Maintenance Technicians completing jobs to adjust work plans.
• Communicates directly with the operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas.
• Respond to calls 24 hrs/day; provide rotating weekend/holiday on call support for maintenance.
• Utilizes and maintains JDE system for work order management.
• Creates schedules and monitors time thru the Kronos timekeeping system.
• Maintains and consistently applies a thorough working knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Maintains compliance with all environmental policies and procedures; ensures that all city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to the maintenance crews are met at all times.

What you need to succeed:

• BS – Engineering or experience as indicated below.
• Minimum of 5 years maintenance supervisory experience in heavy industry.
• Excellent problem solving ability
• Ability to communicate effectively across departments
• Strong organizational and leadership skills

Preferred Skills:

• JDE experience
• Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical components used in industrial applications
• Knowledge of and or experience in paper mill processes and equipment.
