About the Position

Under the direction of the Director of Support Services, this position is responsible for the daily maintenance and plant operations of all buildings and facilities. Responsibilities include coordinating and supervising the Buildings and Grounds team, scheduling staff, providing staff training and coaching, documenting counseling and performance issues for referral to the Director, and performing other routine departmental activities as assigned.

Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting staff in meeting department-specific performance improvement objectives, including Life Safety and Environment of Care standards.

This position works closely with the Director on management matters including, but not limited to, budgeting, productivity, safety, infection control, equipment evaluation, supply and inventory control, staff selection, performance evaluations, competency assessment preparation, and other management responsibilities as requested.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance roles, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory or leadership position.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, painting, carpentry, electrical systems, and HVAC systems commonly used in industrial or commercial facilities.
  • Familiarity with maintenance management software and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
  • Certification in maintenance management or relevant technical certifications (e.g., OSHA, EPA, HVAC).
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and inventory control.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage budgets and vendor relationships.
  • Formal leadership training or coursework in team management and safety compliance.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for completing all daily work accurately and in a timely manner, prioritizing tasks and projects to meet established deadlines.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of Maintenance Department staff and departmental activities.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing facility maintenance services; identify resource needs; review those needs with the Director of Support Services and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Participate in the development of departmental goals and objectives, as well as policies and procedures. Recommend changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participate in implementing approved policies and procedures; and monitor work activities to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and implementing departmental training and educational needs.
  • Assist the Director of Support Services, as requested, with staff selection, preparation of performance evaluations and competency assessments, and other management responsibilities.
  • Monitor and compile productivity and accuracy information for monthly reporting. Review results individually with staff and assist with additional training in identified areas of concern.
  • Participate in the preparation and administration of the facilities maintenance budget; provide budget recommendations; monitor expenditures; prepare cost estimates; develop equipment justifications; and oversee departmental spending.
  • Monitor and control supplies and equipment; order supplies and tools as needed; prepare documentation for equipment purchases; and prepare specifications and contracts for contracted services.
  • Maintain staff schedules based on staffing requirements and provide coverage as necessary.
  • Maintain and review the service help desk ticketing system and distribute and collect tickets daily. Follow up on ticket-related issues through resolution.
  • Coordinate construction projects, renovations, and other special projects to ensure compliance with applicable fire safety and building codes.
  • Provide leadership by example and offer guidance and coaching to staff.
  • Work with the Director of Support Services to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agency standards and procedures.
  • Develop and organize preventive maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities and equipment.
  • Provide or coordinate training in facility maintenance methods, procedures, techniques, and safety practices.
  • Request supplies and equipment as needed; receive items and place them in the appropriate areas.
  • Participate on committees as requested by the Director of Support Services.
  • Encourage and promote teamwork within the department to ensure a safe and clean environment for staff, visitors, and patients.
  • Ensure on-call schedules are reviewed, maintained, and evaluated monthly by staff.
  • Complete any additional duties as assigned by the Director of Support Services.
