Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections - Corrections Services is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola, LA. You will oversee maintenance and repairs across utilities, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, masonry and refrigeration in a large complex of buildings.

Work in a 24-hour facility with adult male inmates across custody levels. Expect shift work and eligibility for probation or future permanent promotion as a Louisiana state

Responsibilities

• Supervises maintenance and repairs of utilities, sewer systems, water lines and valves, electrical systems, plumbing, security fences, gas lines, refrigeration equipment and other maintenance-related operations.
• Electrical work includes repair and installation of receptacles, transformers, wiring, lighting and related equipment.
• Plumbing includes installation of fixtures and lines, gas regulators adjustments, and related appliances.
• Carpentry involves roofs, doors, tiles, sheetrock, shelves and guardrails.
• Welding covers maintenance of water lines, calderas, gates and fences.
• Masonry involves brickwork and tile work.
• Refrigeration covers HVAC systems, walk-ins and related units.

Supervising and coordinating maintenance work at LSP which includes responsibility for approx. 3,424,522 square feet of maintained building space in 489 buildings.

Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) is the state’s only Class 1A facility and the only correctional facility providing custody and control of adult male inmates who have been sentenced to death.

Job Duties

• Supervises all maintenance and repairs of utilities, sewer systems, water lines and valves, electrical appliances, electrical wiring, plumbing, security fences, gas lines and hookups, refrigeration equipment, and any other maintenance-related operation in the assigned area of responsibility.
• ELECTRICAL – the repair and installation of receptacles, transformer banks, multi-breakers, electrical wiring, fans, dishwashing and cooking equipment, security lights, generators, power lines, guide wires, and any other electrical work.
• PLUMBING – the installation of commercial appliances and plumbing fixtures, water and gas lines, adjustments of gas regulators, and related appliances and fixtures.
• CARPENTRY – repairing roofs, hanging doors, installing floor tiles, sheetrock, constructing shelves, guardrails, small buildings, and the laying of concrete blocks and bricks.
• WELDING – the maintenance and repair of water lines, calderas, gates, fences, gas lines (includes heavy equipment and pressure boilers {with assistance of outside vendors}).
• MASONRY – the laying of brick, terra cotta, ceramic and hollow tile, and other building blocks.
• REFRIGERATION – the maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning systems, refrigerators, several large walk-in coolers, ice-makers and exhaust fans.

Work Environment

Work with adult male inmates of all custody levels – minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody.

Work for (support) Facility Maintenance Manager A

Supervise lower-level jobs and inmates.

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
• This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
