Job description

The Maintenance Specialist is a member of the Plant Department and reports to the Senior Director for Property. The primary areas of responsibility include completing general maintenance and repair for facilities in designated trade as assigned. The Maintenance Specialist must maintain a healthy value system, including moral and ethical behavior consistent with the agency's mission and core values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complete maintenance orders and preventive maintenance schedule on a daily basis in designated trade.
  • Report maintenance concerns and status of jobs in a timely manner.
  • Assist in determination of equipment, materials, and supplies as needed.
  • Abide by all rules and regulations for environment and hazardous waste laws.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Serve as back-up for other Plant staff positions as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate sanitary conditions in Plant area in accordance with health and licensing regulations.
  • Assist with set-up for special events and attend organizational staff meetings.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Department schedule for 40 hours per week begins on Monday and normally ends on Friday. Normal work hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch. This employee must be able to work on call duty and work overtime on nights and weekends if necessary. This employee must also be able to work in adverse conditions. A technology stipend is provided to support the communication requirements of this position.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE

A high school diploma and three years of experience in designated trade is required. Previous experience in maintaining/renovating existing buildings is preferred. Proof of specialized Licensure/Certification will be required.

TRAINING

Training hours must be completed annually to comply with licensing and accreditation standards, as well as MCH policy. The employee's supervisor may require additional training to meet specific job requirements or enhance professional growth. Completion of training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.

OTHER

This staff member must be willing to be cross-trained in all phases of the Plant Department. The Maintenance Specialist must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid Texas Driver's License, an excellent driving record that meets the standards set forth by the liability insurance company and Methodist Children's Home, no criminal history and acceptable references.
