Job summary

Alabama Power's Plant Miller is seeking a Plant Valve Specialist to support maintenance and operations as subject matter expert for valve operation and applications. You will ensure adherence to valve PM/testing programs and safety codes, monitor daily equipment needs, and coordinate valve specialty contractors.

You will prepare budget projections with plant system owners and finance to ensure maintenance and capital plans are properly accounted for.

Qualifications

• Must possess a basic mechanical aptitude and have a good understanding of power plant systems.
• A good working knowledge of various valve designs and their applications.
• Basic understanding of plant electrical systems, instrumentation, and controls.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
• Ability to prioritize, plan and manage multiple work activities simultaneously.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

• Power plant or other industrial plant experience is preferred but not required.
• Valve and actuator repair experience is preferred from repair shop or plant experience.
• Valve diagnostics and troubleshooting experience preferred.
• Power or industrial plant operations/maintenance experience, or specific maintenance experience is strongly desired
• Experience implementing maintenance strategies and inspections on mechanical power plant equipment is strongly desired

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Must possess a basic mechanical aptitude and have a good understanding of power plant systems.
• A good working knowledge of various valve designs and their applications, as well as a working knowledge of various mechanical equipment operation and maintenance is preferred.
• A basic understanding of plant electrical systems, instrumentation, and controls is preferred.
• Excellent computer skills and effective written and verbal communication skills is a must
• Ability to appropriately prioritize, plan and manage multiple work activities simultaneously is required.

Travel Requirements

• Minimal travel required. Some vendor shop visits may be required at times.
