Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Summer Hours 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., June 23, 2025 - September 5, 2025)

This position involves performing and/or leading skilled maintenance operations for assigned facilities or sites. Responsibilities include receiving and processing work orders and service requests, inspecting facilities and equipment, installing, operating, and maintaining devices and vehicles, preparing reports, addressing safety issues, and performing related duties.

  1. Safely and efficiently load/unload heavy equipment onto trailers and tow equipment to/from various jobsites and repair facilities.
  2. Perform vehicle and equipment pre/post trip inspections; monitor and replenish fluids; perform basic repairs.
  3. Proficient operation of Backhoe, Excavator, and Skid Steer at a minimum.
  4. Ability to drive dump trucks regularly.
  5. Additional experience with Rubber Tire Loaders, Jet Vac Trucks, Track Loaders, Camera Trucks, and Motor Graders.
  6. Equipment Operator assignments may include substituting camera truck or Jet Vac Truck within stormwater maintenance.
  7. Assist in manual excavation work, including digging, backfilling, compacting, leveling, asphalt looping, concrete form setting, and landscaping.
  8. Assist with traffic control device installation and flagging operations.
  9. Maintain neat and complete records, including timesheets and inspection forms.
  10. Check and clean basins.
  11. Use performance management system to document work progress.
  12. Perform other similar duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Four years of equipment operation or technical repair experience related to the assignment.
  • Valid NC Class B Commercial Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficiency in operating at least three of the following heavy equipment: Backhoe, Excavator, Rubber Tire Loader, Jet Vac Truck, Skid Steer loader, Motor Grader, and Dump Trucks.
  • Knowledge of DOT traffic laws applicable to heavy equipment operation.
  • This position is critical for emergency operations and requires reporting to work during emergencies or disasters.
  • Subject to standby/recall, after-hours work, and work during inclement weather.
  • Must operate service or dump trucks with plows during winter weather, depending on license class.
