About the Position

Are you a skilled operator with leadership experience and a commitment to keeping our roads safe and functional? Lane County’s Road Maintenance Division is looking for a Maintenance Lead to oversee and support road maintenance and repair crews.
In this role, you’ll coordinate daily operations, ensure quality and safety standards are met, and help keep vital transportation routes clear and well-maintained.

Additional duties specific to the following areas of assignment are expected in accordance with the incumbent's specific skills and experience:

  • Road Maintenance- Leading work crews assigned to road maintenance and repair.

About the Division:

The Road Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the County transportation system including some state highways and city streets under contract with Lane County.
Although the majority of equipment and employees in Road Maintenance are based at the Delta Complex, satellite shops are located near Cottage Grove, Dexter, Veneta, and Florence.
A crew and equipment are assigned to each Road Maintenance Zone.
The Bridge Special Projects Crew, Sign Shop, and Vegetation Crew are headquartered at Delta and work throughout the County.

Schedule:Monday - Thursday, 6:30 a.m.
- 5:00 p.m.
Shifts change per operational needs.

Training:

  • Up to one year of technical or specialized training beyond high school.

Experience:

  • Lead Worker (N4332) – Four years of progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Oregon Class A CDL, with required endorsements and medical card.
  • The selected candidates for this classification are required to take and pass a pre-employment drug test before entering County employment. Employees in this classification are required to participate in an ongoing drug testing program, including, but not limited to, random testing according to requirements of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
  • A valid Oregon Class A CDL with a fifth wheel restriction is allowed for this classification.
    • SUMMARY OF COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE INFORMATION: Due to Department of Transportation requirements for those currently holding Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDLs), all candidates referred for interview for positions requiring CDLs will be asked to sign a consent to allow their former employers to disclose to Lane County Department of Public Works alcohol and drug related information for the past 3 years. This information will ONLY be requested after a conditional offer of employment has been extended.
    • Also, per 49 CFR 391.21(d), we wish to inform you that the information you provide regarding your previous employers and employment for the past 3 years may be used, and your employers of the past 3 years will be contacted, in order to investigate your safety performance history information as required by 49 CFR 391.23, (d) and (e). You are hereby notified that you have due process rights as specified in 40 CFR 291.23(i) regarding any information received as a result of these investigations.
