The City of Rowlett is seeking a skilled maintenance worker to operate heavy equipment and perform maintenance on water, wastewater, and drainage systems. This role includes training staff and ensuring safety at work sites. The position offers a competitive hourly rate and comprehensive benefits, including a 4-day work week and retirement plans.
Hiring Rate: $21.61 hourly
Full Pay Range: $21.61 - $32.41 hourly
Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 6:00am - 4:00pm

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work. Operates equipment in construction, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, wastewater, and drainage systems. May serve as lead worker in the absence of Crew Leader. Performs other duties as assigned.
Assists Crew Leader in planning, scheduling, and implementing construction, maintenance, and operation activities to provide quality water, wastewater, street, and drainage services. Performs labor involved in construction and maintenance projects, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying, and backfilling. Services water supply, sewer lift stations, and other pumps. Ensures safety standards are met at work sites.
Ensures safe operating conditions, including traffic hazards, equipment operation, barricades, confined space safety, and trench safety. Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment, maintains water supply and wastewater activity records.
Responds to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss, sewer backups, and odors. Explains issues to residents and business owners, and informs them about service disruptions and repairs.
Assists in training Maintenance Specialist I and II staff. Responsible for locating utility lines before excavation. Maintains attendance and punctuality. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, three years of related experience, and preferably supervisory experience.
Operates heavy equipment such as dump trucks and backhoes. Performs manual tasks, works safely, communicates effectively, and maintains effective relationships. Valid Texas Class "A" CDL with Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months. Must reside within 1-hour response time from the Public Works Building within 6 months of employment. On-call work and night/weekend shifts may be required. Must have or obtain within 12 months a Class "C" Water Distribution License and Wastewater Collection System Class 2 License.
