Job summary

State of Nebraska is seeking two Maintenance Specialists I to support the Craft State Office Building in North Platte. These roles perform a range of maintenance tasks across carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and groundskeeping.

The positions require an associate degree or vocational training in a building trade, with preference for certified maintenance credentials and EPA refrigerant knowledge. A Monday–Friday shift and driving are required in a government facility.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade.
  • Experience in building maintenance or a mechanical trade.
  • Substitution of education with relevant safety inspections or training may be considered by the agency.

Responsibilities

  • Complete repairs and preventive maintenance across multiple trades.
  • Perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and groundskeeping tasks.
  • Schedule and execute preventive maintenance and repairs for equipment and systems.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of stock and commonly used maintenance parts.
  • .complete duties with or without supervision and adhere to safety requirements.

The Department of Administrative Services State Building Division is looking for 2 Maintenance Specialists to join their team at the Craft State Office Building in North Platte. his position performs a variety of tasks beyond basic facility maintenance including skilled construction, installation, alteration, fabrication, maintenance, and repair work in one or more building trades and/or equipment maintenance activities. The Specialist works individually or as a member of a work crew, exercising a substantial degree of independence in planning and organizing their own work and performs related work as assigned.

Job Duties: Completing repairs and preventive maintenance. Perform carpentry work, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, groundskeeping and other skilled trades work. Schedules and performs specialized preventative maintenance and repairs for equipment, systems, and machinery to ensure necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts. Maintain accurate inventory of all stock and commonly used maintenance parts. Completes duties as assigned with or without supervision. All other duties assigned within the scope of the classification.

Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications: Certification/Completion Diploma in one or more applicable Maintenance trade(s). Licensed in one or more applicable Maintenance Fields. Special License for EPA applications or refrigerant.

Work Shift: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm with some on call as needed

Other: Must be able to pass a State Patrol background check. This position requires driving. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and Reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Skill in: the use of hand tools, power tools and building maintenance equipment; basic office and computer skills including competency in the use of email, building system applications; the operation and preservation of maintenance tools and equipment. Use of basic grounds keeping equipment.
