Job summary

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and perform basic maintenance of City facilities and building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
• Plan maintenance projects and coordinate quotes from tradesmen; supervise work for quality and compliance.
• Construct and install building fixtures and components; replace ballasts and light fixtures and upgrade to LED where applicable.
• Operate and maintain a variety of specialized vehicles, tools, and equipment; perform routine maintenance on tools.
• Complete daily logs, work orders, and receipts; observe safety procedures and report hazards.

Description

Maintains, repairs, and performs basic maintenance of City of Longview facilities; provides preventative maintenance; constructs and installs building fixtures; plans projects; coordinates and receives quotes from tradesmen and supervise their work for compliance and quality; maintains and constructs building systems to include HVAC, plumbing and electrical; performs other duties as assigned.

Examples of Duties

• Assists in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems, HVAC systems, sewers, and infrastructure; installs and maintains building signs.
• Maintains, repairs, and performs basic maintenance of City of Longview facilities.
• Provides preventative maintenance on building systems.
• Constructs and installs building fixtures such as cabinets, furniture, doors, and walls.
• Plans maintenance projects.
• Requests, supervises, and checks quality of work performed by HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other tradesmen.
• Get quotes and bids for materials and services.
• Maintains and constructs building systems, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical.
• Operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles, tools and equipment; cleans and performs routine maintenance work on tools and equipment.
• Purchases and replaces ballasts and light fixtures; converts some to LED type fixtures.
• Assists in ordering facility maintenance equipment and supplies as assigned.
• Completes required daily logs, work orders and receipts.
• Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent, and two years of building maintenance and construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
• Voucher of completion from the Career Training Program Construction and Trades course work in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, maintenance technician, HVAC or building assessment will be required within six months.
• Certification from The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) in carpentry, electrical, plumbing or painting is preferred.
• Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check.
