Overview

The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith‑based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. The Bowery Mission meets essential needs and creates transformative community with men, women, children, and families in New York so that we can together overcome homelessness and poverty and flourish.

Responsibilities

• Assist and perform all facility maintenance and repair needs.
• Coordinate, monitor, and provide daily facilities operations to keep buildings and grounds in good working order for staff, clients, residents, and guests.
• Facilitate timely and quality maintenance/repair and improvements related to facilities, including HVAC, security/alarm systems, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, furniture, appliances, and kitchen equipment.
• Work with campus staff, program directors, and outside contractors to ensure good housekeeping and safety practices.
• Perform plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and carpentry tasks to meet planned goals.
• Serve as team lead on maintenance and housekeeping functions; train and mentor teammates on basic and more complex skills.
• Provide vendor coordination with campus staff, including advising on maintenance required and obtaining quotes for approval and scheduling.
• Provide general support to supervisor as needed with special projects.
• Assist with monitoring invoices and billing processes, work‑order tracking, vendor follow‑up, and various reports.
• Maintain a detailed list of equipment and keep information updated in software (“In Check”).
• Support fire safety; must obtain FDNY certification as an F‑04 Fire Guard.
• Coordinate the process to keep all buildings compliant—facilitate monthly and annual inspections of emergency lighting, elevators, sprinkler system inspections, etc.
• Communicate safety precautions to employees and others; plan and implement meetings at each site to instruct and inform facilities and program staff on proper emergency procedures (water shut down, electrical panels, sewage and drain issues).

Schedule: 7:00 am–3:30 pm. Requires availability for days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

Requirements

• BA/BS or equivalent education and experience.
• 4+ years of field‑specific training and experience.
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of office technology, including MS Office Suite.

Preferred

• Driver’s license.
• F04 (fire safety guard certificate).
• NCI Certification.
• OSHA Certification.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with relevant education & experience: $20.19–$24.04.
