Job description

The Maintenance Trainee will receive hands-on training in all wage and salaried jobs to learn to manage a shift or an operational area in a Maintenance Shop. Once hands-on training is completed in each area, the trainee will fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments. The trainee will learn to manage a shift while emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery. The trainee will also complete assignments assessed through knowledge indicators, writing papers, viewing management videos, and recommending process improvements on operating procedures. Participation in the ODTDT/Class B Training program to receive a CDL/Class B license, forklift training, and management/leadership courses is scheduled.

Primary Responsibilities (Additional duties may be assigned by management and adherence to all company policies and procedures is required)

  1. Complete shift manager’s training as an understudy with an experienced manager
  2. Complete maintenance job training knowledge and production exercises on all jobs within the shop
  3. Fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments
  4. Complete department/area knowledge indicators and develop new indicators and process and procedure changes
  5. Work with parts manager and shop supervisor to ensure timely repair of equipment
  6. Assist in the formation of the shop budget
  7. Write and submit monthly activity reports
  8. Assign work to employees according to the daily schedule
  9. Make quick and informed decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedules to affected employees
  10. Inspect working conditions of tools and equipment needed for safe operation and direct corrections of any unsafe conditions
  11. Answer employee questions regarding company policies
  12. Attend training sessions and meetings
  13. Must be open to relocation upon completion of the trainee program

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering/Technology preferred
  • Maintenance Degree Program or a two-year Technical degree with applicable experience accepted

Travel Required:

  • 15%. The trainee will travel to various maintenance locations to learn processes and supervise in different environments.

Experience:

  • Good working knowledge of computer/PC software (WORD, EXCEL)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid work history (if applicable)
