Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a trainee-turned-shift supervisor to oversee a maintenance shop, learn to manage an operational area, and fill in as supervisor across shifts. You will gain hands-on experience in safety, quality, and efficiency while completing leadership training and various certifications.

The role includes assignment of daily tasks, reporting, and budget collaboration, with travel around 15% as part of the trainee program. Relocation may be required after training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering/Technology preferred or equivalent.
• Maintenance Degree Program or a two-year Technical degree with applicable experience accepted.
• Good working knowledge of WORD and EXCEL.

Responsibilities

• Manage a shift while emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery.
• Assign work to employees according to the daily schedule and communicate schedules.
• Write and submit monthly activity reports and assist in forming the shop budget.
• Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and direct corrections of issues.
• Attend training sessions and meetings and participate in leadership programs.

Job description

• Receive hands-on training in all wage and salaried jobs to learn to manage a shift or operational area in a Maintenance Shop
• Fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments after completing hands-on training
• Manage a shift while emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, service, and delivery
• Complete assignments and assessments through knowledge indicators, writing papers, management videos, and process improvement recommendations
• Participate in ODTDT/Class B Training program, forklift training, and management/leadership training
• Complete shift manager’s training as an understudy with an experienced manager
• Complete maintenance job training knowledge and production exercises on all shop jobs
• Complete department/area knowledge indicators and develop process and procedure changes
• Work with parts manager and shop supervisor to ensure timely equipment repair
• Assist in forming the shop budget
• Write and submit monthly activity reports
• Assign work to employees according to the daily schedule
• Make informed decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedules to affected employees
• Inspect tools and equipment working conditions for safe operation and direct correction of improper or adverse conditions
• Answer employee questions regarding company policy
• Attend training sessions and meetings

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering/Technology preferred
• Maintenance Degree Program or a two-year Technical degree with applicable experience accepted
• Good working knowledge of computer/PC software (WORD, EXCEL)
• Good verbal and written communications skills
• Solid work history (if applicable)
• Must be open to relocation when trainee program is completed
• Participation in ODTDT/Class B Training program to receive a CDL/Class B license
• Forklift training program and management/leadership training courses as scheduled
• Travel required: 15%
